highway survey report

A site survey conducted on October 20, 2023, at Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology assessed the suitability of a site for a five-storey student quarters. The findings indicate that the land is generally suitable for construction, with good natural lighting and accessibility, though environmental concerns such as poor drainage and soil pollution were noted. Recommendations include proceeding with development while ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.

SITE SURVEY REPORT

INTRODUCTION.

On the 20th of October 2023,survey was conducted at a site in Kiambu institute of science of
technology that was to be developed a five storey student quarters .the survey is to help assess
the sites suitability for the intended project which is a five storey student quarters ,gather
information for individual architectural designs and identify potential challenges or constraints
during development : typically by collecting data ,measurements ,observations and
documentation which will be used to make informed decisions of the site

SITE DESCRIPTION.

The site under development is located in the outskirts of the learning institution ,address being
414-00900,geographical coordinates -0.600693,36.890436.the site is on the slopes of a hilly area
but is levelled ununiformly and there is a lot of tree cover which is planted that prompts during
development , environmental conservation must be mandatorily considered so as to not damage
the ecosystem of the area .

OBJECTIVES

Determine , if chosen site is suitable for construction ,that is , assessing the soil
quality ,topography: environmental considerations , we evaluate any potential environmental
impact and compliance with regulations in order to know whether the project will affect the
ecosystem ,air and water quality , or even endanger species around the area and also to assess the
financial feasibility of the project considering factors like cost , return on investment , and
potential revenue streams and also collect precise geographic and topographic data for
mapping ,navigation and geographic information system and purposes .

METHODOLOGY.
(i)Total stations.

Advanced optical and electronic instruments used for measuring angles, and distance and also
used to create precise 3D coordinates of various points on the site.

(ii)Automatic leveling.

Used to determine elevations and gradients on the terrain and they are crucial for contour
mapping and identifying changes in terrain.

(iii)Ground penetrating Radar (G.P.R).

It is a non-invasive method for detecting subsurface objects, utilities and geological features.
Used to identify buried pipes and cables.

(iv)Handheld GPS Devices.

Used to mark specific points, boundaries or features on the site.

(v)Stratified sampling.
Site was divided into distinct strata based on soil type, vegetation and topography then randomly
selected from each stratum.
Safety protocols followed:
(i) Comprehensive training to all surveyors and site personnel was done to familiarize
them with the use of safety equipments and understand specific hazards associated
with the site.
(ii) All site personnel were equipped with the appropriate PPE which included hard hats,
steel-toed boots, gloves and safety goggles.
(iii) Thorough assessment of the site was conducted to identify potential hazards including
natural and man-made danger.

5.SITE CONDITIONS
The site enjoys good natural lighting which is favorable for the proposed student quarters.
Environmental concerns such as poor drainage in the area and pollution in soil was observed.
6.FINDINGS.
Site conditions
The land appears level and suitable for construction but requires minimal excavation and grading
and is also free from visible debris or obstructions. It also enjoys good natural lighting which is
favorable for proposed student quarters ,moreover ,the designated area is easily accessible to site
personnel for commencement of development.
8.ANALYSIS
The surveyed land appears to be suitable location for the proposed building. It has a good
physical environment conditions, a good view of the outside world is safe, secure and complies
with the relevant regulations.
9.CONCLUSION
The site surveyed confirms that the designated land is a visible location for the planned project.
with proper planning and adherence to safety standards, this development would be an asset to
the clients at hand.
10.RECOMMENDATIONS
 Proceed as planned with development of the proposed student quarters on the designated
land
 Conduct a detailed engineering and architectural assessment to plan construction
effectively.
 Ensure that construction adheres to safety and environmental standards throughout the
project.
 Defend the areas ecosystem by reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic wastes on the
environment.
