A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE III

UNIT IV, CHAPTER 1, LESSON 4

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minute discussion the pupils should be able to:
a. recognize the major landforms of the earth
b. describe the major landforms of the earth
c. dramatize the importance of caring for the Earth and it’s major landforms
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Major Landforms of the Earth
Reference: Teacher’s Guide p. 182-188, Curriculum Guide p. 53 of 203, Science
Grade 4 Learner’s Material in First Edition 2015 p.157 of 339
Materials: Kahoot game slides, video clip, speaker, landforms 3D model,
cartolina,clapboard,song and assessment paper
Values Integration: “respect”, “discipline”, “appreciation”, and “gratefulness”
Concept: The concept underlying the lesson on the major landforms of the Earth
revolves around understanding the Earth's diverse physical features and
appreciating the interconnectedness between these landforms and
environmental stewardship. By recognizing and describing major landforms such
as mountains, hills, valleys, deserts, plains, and plateaus, students gain a deeper
appreciation for the Earth's natural beauty and the importance of preserving
these landscapes for future generations. Encourages students to become
proactive stewards of the Earth, fostering a sense of responsibility and
commitment to protecting and preserving its natural resources.

Okay, after breathing fresh air, I want you to

arrange your chairs, pick up some pieces of
paper or garbage, keep the things that are not
needed in our discussion and lastly sit
properly.
At the count of 10 I hope you are all ready to

Now, who would like to share their feelings or

thoughts about what they experienced when
they looked outside our window, saw the
mountains, plants, and breathed in the fresh

B. Review
Before we begin to our new lesson, I would like
to ask if who among you here can recall and

responsibility to ourselves.

3. MOTIVATION
Alright, everyone, let's get ready for some
hands-on learning! I want each of you to count
from 1 to 6, and when you reach your number,
gather in the designated area where you'll find
puzzle pieces waiting for you.

Once you've found your spot and assembled

the puzzle, the group leader will raise the red Yes teacher!
flag to indicate that you're ready to brainstorm
together.

Assemble the puzzle as quickly as you can,

but make sure every piece fits perfectly.
Teamwork is key here!
Yes teacher!

Once the puzzle is complete, take a moment

as a group to brainstorm and discuss the
image you've formed. What can you tell us
about the landform depicted in your puzzle?

Share any interesting facts or observations you

have with the class. Teacher, I think our topic this morning is

What do you think will be our topic all about?
Anyone in the class have an Idea?
Okay Christine

Very good Christine! to be specific we will talk

about the MAJOR LANDFORMS OF THE
EARTH

What do we mean by landforms.

Okay Maria, you can share your idea
Yes teacher!

.
Very well said! Thankyou Maria, Landforms
are the natural features that make up the
Earth's surface. They can include mountains,
hills, valleys, deserts, plains, plateaus, and
more. These landforms are created through
various geological processes over long periods
of time, and they play a crucial role in shaping
our planet's landscapes. Mountains are very tall teacher and one
of the example of mountain here in the
Philippines teacher is Mt. Apo teacher.
So now class, we will talk what are the MAJOR
LANDFORMS OF THE EARTH we will discuss
it one by one okay? Are you ready class?!

5. DISCUSSION

First up, let's talk about mountains.

Who can describe what mountains are and
who can give an example of mountain here in
the Philippines?
Okay Carmina?

Valleys!
Thankyou Carmina, Yes, we have many
beautiful mountains in the Philippines. One
example is Mount Apo, located in Mindanao.
Do you know class that Mount Apo is the
highest peak in the Philippines, standing at an
impressive elevation of 2,954 meters above
sea level. It is known for its breathtaking
landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and is a
popular destination for hikers and
mountaineers.
Wow teacher!
Alright, class, now that we've covered
mountains, let's move on to the next major
landform. Can anyone tell me what the next Canyons are like valleys too, right

That's correct! Valleys are low areas of land

between hills or mountains, often with a river
or stream flowing through them.

Now, class this image of valley infront is called

“The Grand Canyon in the United States!” Yes teacher!
The Grand Canyon - is one of the most famous
valleys in the world, known for its vast size and
stunning rock formations carved by the
Colorado River over millions of years. A Hills are smaller than mountains and
have gentler slopes. They're often found

made of various materials like rock, soil,

Yes, that's right! Canyons are very similar to
valleys, but they're usually deeper and have
steeper sides.

Anyone in the class can tell what is the

difference between mountain and hills? Okay
Sarah?

The Sahara Desert!

Can anyone think of an example of a hill that is

famous in our country ?
Okay Adrian I bet you know one.

Very good Adrian Plains are flat, low-lying areas of land with
little to no hills or mountains. They're

great for farming.
Deserts are areas of land that receive very
little rainfall, making them dry and barren. Plateaus are elevated flat areas of land
with steep sides. They're often formed

volcanic activity.

Correct! The Sahara Desert is the largest hot

desert in the world, covering much of North
Africa. It's known for its vast sand dunes and
extreme temperatures.

What about plains? What are they like?

Last but not least, what are plateaus?

Please read the definition Francis

Can anyone give an example of a plateau? If

none I will share this one “The Colorado
Plateau in the United States!”

region covering parts of several states, known
for its stunning rock formations and deep
canyons.
