Science Year 6 - Cambridge Checkpoint

Overview
Chapter 1: Plants
Plants make their own food through photosynthesis using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and
water. They have roots to absorb water and minerals, stems to support the plant, and leaves
to make food. Seeds grow into new plants when they get water, warmth, and air.

Chapter 2: Human Body and Health

The human body has systems like the skeletal system for support and the digestive system
to break down food. A balanced diet keeps the body healthy. Exercise, hygiene, and proper
nutrition are important for growth and health.

Chapter 3: Materials
Materials have different properties like hardness, flexibility, and conductivity. They can be
natural (wood, water) or man-made (plastic, glass). Materials change when they are heated,
cooled, mixed, or exposed to light.

Chapter 4: Forces and Motion

Forces can push or pull objects. Gravity pulls everything toward the Earth. Friction slows
things down. Magnetism is a force that attracts iron. Motion is how things move and can be
measured by speed and direction.

Chapter 5: Electricity and Circuits

Electricity flows through circuits. A simple circuit needs a power source, wires, and a bulb
or buzzer. Conductors allow electricity to pass through, while insulators do not. Switches
control the flow of electricity.

Chapter 6: Light and Shadows

Light travels in straight lines and allows us to see. When light hits an object, it can reflect or
be absorbed. Shadows form when light is blocked. Transparent objects let light pass
through, opaque ones block it.
Chapter 7: Earth and Space
The Earth orbits the Sun and spins on its axis, causing day and night. The Moon orbits the
Earth and reflects sunlight. We see different moon phases due to its position. The solar
system includes planets, moons, and the Sun.
