Intervention Plan to Elevate ELA Student Performance

1. Objective
To identify academic challenges in ELA and implement targeted strategies to enhance students'
skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.

Step 1: Assessment and Identification

a. Collect Data

• Review grades, assignments, and assessments to pinpoint areas of weakness (e.g., reading
comprehension, grammar, writing organization).
• Examine attendance records and participation in classroom discussions.

b. Diagnose Root Causes

• Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to uncover challenges (e.g., limited

vocabulary, lack of interest, difficulty analyzing texts).
• Seek input from parents, fellow teachers, and counselors to gather a complete picture of
the student’s needs.

c. Group Students

• Categorize students based on their needs (e.g., struggling with essay writing, difficulties
understanding figurative language, challenges with fluency).

Step 2: Goal Setting

• Set SMART Goals tailored to ELA skills.

o Example: "Improve essay writing skills to achieve at least a ‘B’ on the next three
assignments within two months."
• Involve students in the goal-setting process to ensure their commitment and
understanding.

Step 3: Tailored Interventions

a. Academic Support

• Targeted Writing Workshops: Focus on specific areas such as thesis statements,

paragraph structure, or grammar improvement.
• Reading Comprehension Exercises: Assign short texts with guided questions to build
inference and analysis skills.
• Vocabulary Building Sessions: Introduce weekly vocabulary lists and practice exercises.

b. Parental Involvement

• Share strategies for reinforcing ELA skills at home (e.g., encouraging daily reading,
proofreading assignments together).
• Schedule check-ins with parents to discuss progress and areas for support.

c. Classroom Strategies

• Use differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs (e.g., graphic organizers for
visual learners, read-alouds for auditory learners).
• Incorporate frequent formative assessments such as journal entries, exit tickets, or pop
quizzes to gauge progress.

d. Behavioral and Motivational Support

• Establish peer-editing groups to promote collaboration and constructive feedback.

• Use positive reinforcement, such as praise or certificates, to celebrate student
achievements.

Step 4: Monitoring and Feedback

• Weekly Progress Reviews: Evaluate improvement in reading fluency, essay structure, or

grammar accuracy.
• Constructive Feedback: Provide actionable suggestions for assignments and encourage
reflection on areas to improve.
• Adapt Strategies: Modify interventions based on ongoing assessments and student
responses.

Step 6: Celebrate Successes

• Highlight student growth during class (e.g., improved grades, better participation).
• Reward milestones with certificates, small prizes, or class recognition to maintain
motivation.
