property had been ripped up and torn to shreds. Most of the windows
had been shattered and the siding of the house has claw marks across
them. Overall the attack last night was from a group of very angry
demons. Cade watched as Irial jogged back to the door with a strange
look on his face.
“Emily’s mother is fine she said the night was quiet our other
neighbors say the same thing. Other than our house nothing has been
touched.”
“So you’re saying they just showed up to demand this Bashir, fucked
up the house and ignored everyone else. That doesn’t sound like a
normal demon attack.” Cade moved away from the door to let his
friend in.
“I’ll call the Captain and see if the men can be spared to come and
inspect the house.” Irial said slipping into the kitchen.
Cade walked back into the living room where Adonis and Emily were
sitting quietly. He gave Emily a small nod then pulled Adonis into his
arms. The two were silent ad Cade moved upstairs and set Adonis on
the bed. Cade began pacing the room unsure about what to ask first.
“You could start with the thing that is bothering you the most.” Cade
jumped and stared at the silver haired sitting on the bed. He had to
remind himself that the boy could hear what he was thinking.
Adonis looked at the floor the subject was a very sensitive one and
every time Cade would ask about it Adonis would break down.
Though Cade didn’t want to surface such painful memories for the
boy he need to know what was going on so he could protect Adonis.
Adonis paused to take a deep breath and Cade sat next to the boy
taking his hand. It took several seconds for Adonis to control his
emotions. Cade decided it would be best to distract the boy for a
moment so he suggested that Adonis attempt to stand. Once Adonis
was on his feet clutching to Cade for balance he continued.
“I woke back in that room I was older but I don’t know how long it
was between. They didn’t tell me my age until this year when I turned
eighteen, apparently that is when I have to start giving consent for
what they were doing to me. This time I was unable to hear their
thoughts, they said they gave me some sort of medication for it. They
observed me for twenty days, that’s what they told me, I think they
were expecting me to do something else.”
“No they thought that the drug they used was blocking all my powers.
No Cade they didn’t do any experiments like that. I have never been
sexually aroused and they never tried to take, what is semen?”
“They teach you everything there is to know and they cut out your sex
ed lessons.” Cade mumbled trying to close his mind so no more
thoughts would slip through.
“It wont work you and I are connected my keda.” Adonis smiled as
Cade set him back on the bed.
“I kissed you, I don’t know how it works because I have never kissed
someone before. Ever since I kissed you I know everything you are
thinking, what you are feeling and even where you are.”
“Why can’t I feel those things with you?” Cade took a seat next to
Adonis.
“Maybe because you don’t have the same powers. You seem disturbed
by all this.”
“I don’t mean to sound freaked out but I have never heard of a normal
person who can kiss someone ad become connected and If you can do
it with me can you do it with others?” Adonis shrugged his shoulders.
“Plus not to mention the face that our house was attacked by demons
and all the other houses around us were untouched.”
“So you think I am some kind of powerful demon? That means you
will have to destroy me.”
“Not necessarily there are both good and bad demons but I don’t think
you are a demon.” Cade pressed a hand to Adonis’s mouth to keep
him from stating that Cade obviously was thinking that. “Demons
can’t take on the form of a human and those who have tried have not
been successful. There is some kind of rule about it, I don’t know how
it works I only kill demons.”
“No Addy I would not do that but I am curious in whether or not you
can connect with someone else. Would you be willing to try
something for me.” Adonis nodded and Cade headed downstairs.
He found Irial in the living room discussing a few things with Emily.
“The Captain said he would be here in an hour.”
“Good I need you foe a sec excuse us Emily.” Cade pulled Irial from
the chair he was in a dragged the man back to his room.
“Ok but you didn’t have to drag me upstairs like that.” Irial rubbed his
wrist where Cade had grabbed him.
“I’m sorry I was just, never mind. I need you to kiss Addy.”
“What, why I thought that was your job.” Irial took a step away from
the two.
“Fine but you better explain after I do it.” Irial stepped towards the
bed and leaned towards Adonis. Gently taking the boy’s chin Irial
pressed their lips together.
“So you dragged me up here to kiss Addy only so you can some how
throw me across the room.” Irial growled pulling himself off the floor.
“No that’s not it.” Cade looked at Adonis who was shaking his head.
“I can hear what he is thinking where I couldn’t before but it’s nothing
like what I am feeling with you.” Adonis explained.
Irial grabbed the collar of Cade’s shirt and pulled the boy towards
him. “You two better start explaining.”
Cade pulled away from Irial and explained everything watching for
any sort of disbelief in Irial’s eyes. Irial was surprisingly calm
throughout the entire explanation asking for a few explanations which
Adonis could not answer.
“So we are going to keep this a secret and act like nothing is going on
while the team is here?” Irial asked looking at Cade.
“Yes, if we tell them they are going to drag him away to some lab and
do more tests on him.”
“Alright but we’re going to have to be very careful about this entire
thing. If those demons are after Addy they will be back and we wont
be safe enough for the next attack.”
“We are soldiers every day we are in harms was and we were put in
charge of your protection.” Irial explained pressing his fingers to his
forehead deep in thought.
“I think your first idea was better, they may believe it better if you
bring up something about where I was.” Adonis said smiling at Irial
who was looking at him in surprise.
“Yeah I’m still not use to the mind reading thing either.” Cade
mumbled.
“No I can hear Emily’s just fine, she is thinking about how she is
going to hide the mark when she goes back to school. I can also hear
Jessica’s and Dr. Marco’s and I haven’t kissed wither of them. Just the
two of you kept me from your mind until I kissed you.”
Cade instructed Adonis to keep quiet with the other soldiers in the
house. The last thing any of them needed was for Adonis to slip and
say something he shouldn’t. Downstairs they found Toby looking at
Emily’s arm coating it in some kind of oil to help with the swelling.
Cade and Irial saluted their Captain who nodded at them as he
approached.
“Sergeant Stroff, Private Basset looks like the two of you have had
quite a night.”
“Captain Cowel.” Cade nodded at the older man. “It was a surprise to
say the least.”
“We think they were after Adonis, sir.” The Captain gave Irial a
questioning look. “The boy we rescued a few months ago.”
“No one told you about him sir?” Cade asked suddenly feeling
nervous.
“Well we got the report on his condition but we didn’t get a name. I
would like to see him at some point. Pleas Irial continue.”
“Well one of the demons tried to climb through Cade’s window and it
claimed that they were here for the boy. I would only assume that
whoever had Adonis in the lab is controlling demons and sending
them out to find him.”
“It makes sense we don’t know anything about the lab and when we
returned to inspect it further everything had been removed from the
room. If that’s the case you are not safe in this house.”
“I was hoping maybe we could try that new security system the Tec
team had created.” Irial said quickly.
“That is actually a good idea Private. I’ll call it in along with a repair
tem to replace what was destroyed. Keden go upstairs with Cade and
inspect the window the demon came through.”
A tall man who was looking over the kitchen window nodded and
followed Cade up the stairs and into the room. When Adonis saw the
two he shrunk back fear in his eyes. Cade moved towards the bed and
placed a reassuring hand on Adonis’s shoulder explaining through his
mind what they were going to do. Adonis nodded and relaxed as
Keden approached the bed.
“So this is him it’s nice to see him awake.” Keden smiled at Adonis
then moved to the broken window.
Cade began picking up the shards of glass that Keden didn’t need to
look at. The two soldiers studied the marks on the wall and window
determining that they were no threat to the house and those who live
in it. Once the window was cleaned Cade began asking Keden how
the team was doing without him.
“Logan has taken your place, he’s not bad but he’s not you. The guys
don’t like to take him seriously and the Captain has had to step in a
few times to reprimand the group. Says we’ve been trained to accept
different leaders and that we shouldn’t act like children. But like I said
he’s not you and he does a lot of things different.”
“The men will learn to trust him.” Cade glanced over at Adonis who
was watching them curiously.
“I don’t know but right now Addy is my charge and I have to think
about him first.”
“He seems quite attached to you, have you been spending a lot of time
with him?”
“Well I mean don’t take this the wrong way but maybe he’s the one
you were meant to be with, you know since fucking Irial doesn’t make
you this docile.” Cade jumped up staring at the man next to him.
Cade cursed under his breath as the Captain stepped into the room. He
stared between the three men in the room before clearing his throat.
Cade introduced Adonis to the man sending the young man a calm
thought. Adonis kept quiet but shook the hand that was offered to him.
“I speak perfectly fine.” Adonis huffed out glancing at Cade for help.
“Well my apology for offending you.” The Captain chuckled. “Is the
sergeant taking good care of you?”
“The sergeant doesn’t care for me Cade does and he is taking very
good care of me.” Adonis said.
“He’s got a sharp tongue that is good, it will keep you in line.”
“Yes the report said he was had surprising intelligence. The men have
deemed the house safe and the security system is in place and we have
installed it in the neighbor’s yards too. Though they were not attacked
last night if the demons find that they can not get near your house they
may attack others to get to you.”
“A crew will be here later to replace the windows and then they will
be back tomorrow for everything else. It was good to see you again
Cade and hopefully you will be returning to duty soon. The men are
restless without you and Logan is having a hard time reining them in.”
The Captain gave Adonis a nod before turning and leaving the room.
Emily was making lunch for the three stating that she would stay with
them for a few days. Emily had never seen a demon before and being
attacked by one left her terrified. Cade smiled to himself as he
wondered how many more people would take over his house before
this ordeal was over.
