Chapter nine: Under the Big Top

XXXXX

A/N: OMG, shoot. I'm hoping that I haven't offended anyone. I guess I
didn't explain enough, the witches are dead and moved on. They were
good witches, but the badness that was caused when the men from the
circus killed them, has lingered on in that spot. Right where Mo
parked the big top. Lotrbcc: I have nothing against witches, and hope
you like this chapter. And as for the lemony goodness, um well lets
see. It's coming, soon, just not now. LoL. Sorry everyone.

"Mr. Keaton." Ben said, seeing the man smile slightly as he shook his
hand.

"There's been a development in our case." Archer said looking

between him and Dan. "We've learned of a massacre that happened
around here sixty years ago."

"What does that have to do with the current problem?" Dan asked.

"Apparently, one of the women killed was in a circus that was passing
through this town. And decided to leave, only to have the men from
the circus kill her and her coven." Archer said, seeing both men look
at him like he had lost his mind.

"So you're telling us, that Gloria was killed by some woman's ghost
who's been dead for sixty years?" Ben asked, shaking his head. "That's
fucking nuts."

"Not a ghost." Archer said. "But since these women died in such a
horrible way, that angry bad energy was left behind. And its seeking
revenge for the witches it lost."
"You're not kidding are you?" Ben asked, seeing Archer shake his
head no. "And your acrobat, Adir. Is he in danger?"

"We don't know that yet. But right now it seems to be dormant."
Archer said seeing both men nod. "Mercer assumes that it goes after
women, only killing new ones who seem to want to stay."

"Revenge killing?" Dan asked.

"Yeah, something like that." Archer replied. "We've done a sweep of

the area, both our psychic and our man who can sense aura have gone
over the area and nothing."

"Ok." Ben said, not sure what else to say. He had heard of the murder
years ago, but never really thought of it.

"Maybe we should pack up the circus, and move them on while this
thing is quiet." Dan said seeing Archer nod.

"I think that would be best. The faster they get out, the less likely for
this thing to strike again." Archer said seeing both men nod.

"I'll get the paperwork done, you take Dan with you and head back to
get them packed up." Ben said as Archer stood.

"Ok." Archer said, as Dan followed him from the building. Getting
into the truck he looked over at the man in his passenger seat.

"What?" Dan asked.

"Nothing." Archer finally replied, starting the truck and pulling it

away from the street. The drive back to the circus grounds was quiet,
and every once and a while Archer would glance at Dan. After parking
the truck and getting out, Archer walked towards Mercer and Mo.
"Sheriff said, go ahead and pack up."

"Really?" Mo said a smile on his face. Archer nodded, his eyes going
to Dan.
"He's doing the papers, and Dan's here to help out too." Archer said
turning when they heard Adir yelling.

"Merc, Merc it is back." The boy was running across a partly opened
field, where he abruptly stopped. His purple blue eyes widened. And a
sudden scream ripped from his throat.

"Shen?" Mercer yelled moving towards the boy. Upon reaching him
he reached out only to find Adir tossed up into the air like a rag doll.
"Shit Shen!"

"Christ." Archer moved, running towards the two. He watched, as

Adir seemed to hover in the air before the boy started to plunge
towards the ground. Archer looked at Mercer, who was watching the
boy. He smiled slightly as the computer's expert caught his lover in his
arms.

"Oh god, Shen you ok kitten?" Mercer asked eyeing the boy clinging
to him.

"I feel a little sick." Adir said opening his eyes. He buried his face into
Mercer's neck; a small shutter racked his body.

"Shen are you ok?" Mercer asked trying to set the boy down, but Adir
wouldn't let go.

"Fine." Came the muttered response from his neck. "Just hold me."

"But this thing?" Mercer asked, looking around the area.

"Is gone again." Adir said wiggling closer. Not that he could get much
closer, but he felt the need to be pressed against Mercer as tightly as
possible. Wrapping his legs around his lover he buried his head in
Mercer's neck.

"He, ok?" Archer asked while looking at Adir. The boy seemed to
want to crawl inside of Mercer.

"Yeah." Mercer said softly. He kept his arms tightly around the boy.
"Ok," Archer said turning back to Mo. "I want you guys packed up
and ready to roll before the sun sets."

"Ok." Mo replied heading off to tell the rest of his crew to get things
torn down. Archer turned back to the other two, shaking his head he
moved away to help.

"Are you sure he's ok? Maybe he needs to see a doctor?" Dan asked
seeing Mercer look at him.

"He's fine, and if he need to see a doctor, he'll see ours." Mercer said
turning to walk away. Dan watched him go, not sure what to say or
do. It wasn't like he understood these people as it was. After a second
he followed after the couple. Walking into a tent he listened to Mo
giving instructions.

Ben looked up, seeing the town doctor standing in his doorway. He
raised an eyebrow at her, waiting for her to tell him why she was
there. "I don't think you should let these people leave."

"Well sorry, but they need to go." Ben said getting up. He had finished
his paperwork, and he needed to be out to the fair grounds. "I have to
go, I'm needed out at the grounds."

"I'm coming too." She said following him out. He turned to glare at
her, but by the look on her face said, that she wasn't going to budge on
this.

"Stella." Ben started but saw the woman shake her head. "You're so
much like your mother."

"Yeah I am." She said grinning, as she got into the truck with him.
They were quiet as they drove out to the site, Stella letting her eyes
gaze over the landscaping. Parking his truck next to Archer's, getting
out he looked at how much they had managed to pull down in a short
amount of time.
"Wow." He said moving towards the big top. Walking in he looked
around at the people, seeing one of the CRDP women he stopped her.
"Hey."

"Hello Sheriff." Jade said grinning at him. "Come to help us run?"

"Excuse me?" Ben said looking at the woman again.

"Come to help us run away like scared little rabbits?" She asked
shifting to press slightly closer to him. His eyes widened slightly,
glancing at Stella who was watching them.

"Sorry no, where's your boss?" Ben asked seeing her grin again.

"That man isn't my boss, sweetie." Jade said glancing over her
shoulder when she saw Archer approaching her. Turning to him, she
smiled as he stopped in front of her. "Why, the sheriff here was just
asking about you, lovely."

"Jade you feel ok?" Archer asked seeing her smile. He took a step
back when she reached up to wrap her arms around his neck.

"I feel fine, and you feel great." She said, rubbing against him.

"Jade, stop it." Archer said reaching up to pull her arms free.

"Why, some little girl you have the hots for might see?" She hissed
pulling back slightly.

"No god damn it, but I won't hurt Gunther anymore, so get your hands
off." Archer hissed yanking her arms from around his neck.
Something wasn't right, Jade was always the quiet bookworm. "Adir!"

"Archer?" Adir asked walking over, he raised an eyebrow at Jade.

"Jade are you ok?"

"Fine baby, just showing our boss how much I appreciate his nice
tight ass." Jade said yelping slightly when Adir took a step closer to
her and grabbed her by the back of her hair. Good thing she only had a
few inches on him, he turned her towards him.
"Do not call me baby, and get out of my friend before I get angry."
Adir hissed low.

"Such a pity you're a queer, pretty little thing like you could have
made a nice sacrifice." Jade said her smile growing as she pulled
away.

"Jade love?" Jacy said her mouth turned down at seeing Adir had a
handful of Jade's hair. "Let her go little boy."

"Certainly." Adir said softly letting Jade go, he turned to look at both
women. "Now tell me what is going on."

"Nothing, can't you feel the power here?" Jacy asked looking at Ben
and Archer. She smiled even more when Mercer walked over. "Would
you like to go play Merc?"

"Um…" Mercer looked at the woman. "Did you forget, gay here?"

He watched as Jacy pursed her lips, before with a sneer she and Jade
walked away. Adir turned back to Archer who was watching them.
"Something is wrong with them."

"Ya think?" Mercer asked looking down at his lover.

"The sooner we get them out of here, the better." Archer said, turning.
"I want to know where Gunther is?"

"He is with Goliath." Adir said softly hearing Archer growl low.

"If that fricking lion has done anything to my Gunther I'll rip its mane
out." Archer said stalking away.

Adir smiled turning back to Ben and Stella. "Hello Sheriff."

"Hello Adir." Ben said looking between the boy and the man.
"Mercer."

"Hey." Mercer said turning away. "Come on kitten, we've got lots to
do. I want out of this town."
"Ok." Adir said grinning as he followed after his lover.

"Strange people." Stella said seeing the man look over at her.

"You should have seen him in the bar the other night." Ben said. "I
almost had a riot in my hands when they realized the beautiful blond
was a boy."

"Oh." Stella said.

"I swear there's been times that I'm not sure it was right to have them
out here." The sheriff said shaking his head as he also moved away.

"Archer!" Adir hissed he moved swiftly trying to catch up with

whatever he was looking for. "Come on I got it!"

"Adir stop, come back." Archer hissed he jumped trying to grab the
boy's leg. "Merc! Gun! Don't let him out of the tent."

"What?" Gunther said grabbing the boy around the waist. He felt Adir
struggle slightly, but kept a tight hand on him. "Stop struggling you
little bitch."

Adir stopped, becoming still in Gunther's arms. "Did you just call me
a bitch?"

"Merc's bitch." Gunther said grinning at him. "Where's the fire?"

"Can you not feel it? The power that is calling?" Adir asked his eyes
wide.

"Sorry boy, your energy tracing days are over." Mercer said, stepping
up to take Adir from Gunther's arms.

"But Merc, it's so strong, I want to dance in the moonlight naked, and
procreate." Adir said rubbing against his lover. Mercer let his arms
tighten around Adir.
"Gunther, give me that gun." Mercer said holding out his hand, he saw
Gunther look at him for a few minutes before finally nodding, and
handing Mercer the gun. They watched as with one hand Mercer
managed to pull out a dart, he twisted Adir in his arms, moving to
prick the boy with the dart.

"Merc?" Adir asked suddenly angry. "Bastard, I hate being

tranquilized!"

"Sorry love, but you need sleep." Mercer said, watching his kitten go
limp. Turning to Archer he handed his boss the boy, before turning
back to Gunther. "Here, half strength, keep them for the women."

"What?" All four people asked at once.

"This thing goes after women, and well lets just say it went after Adir
because he susceptible to energy." Mercer said as Gunther took the
gun, and he turned to take Adir from Archer.

"And Gunther?" Archer asked.

"Are you calling me girly, bastard?" Gunther hissed, seeing Archer

look at him wide eyed.

"No, that's not it." Archer said following after the kid. They could be
heard arguing as they exited the big top, and Mercer turned back to
Ben and Stella.

"Sorry, those two fight a lot." Mercer said glancing back over his
shoulder, as one of the works yelled at them. "Come on, they're ready
for the tent to come down." Mercer said following them out. Looking
back, to see the center of the tent come down.

"So um, half the time I see him, he's knocked out." Stella said stepping
closer.

"He's fine." Mercer said shifting his bundle. "He's trying to adjust to
the energy that has come back full force since the tear down has
started."
"Oh but he's ok?" She asked.

"He'll be awake in a couple hours and be fine." Mercer said shifting

the boy again.

"Ok, everything is packed up." Mo said sitting down at one of the

picnic tables that were scattered around. He looked over at the CRDP.
"I am glad it's over."

"It is not over." Adir whispered, an icepack on his head as he glared at

Mercer.

"I said I was sorry kitten, but you were talking about procreating. It
freaked me out." Mercer said grinning at his lover, as he leaned down
to kiss Adir on the lips.

"Fine, but how did Archer get the black eye?" Adir asked.

"He called Gunther girly." Mercer said grinning.

"I did not." Archer hissed hearing, Gunther growl low. Archer just
shook his head. "Next time, I'll learn to duck faster."

"Ok." Ben said shaking his head at them. Both women had been
tranquilized too, and now were sitting also with headaches. "So, what
did he mean that it's not over?"

"We will not be able to leave until the energy is dealt with." Adir said
moving the icepack from his head. "And just so you know, it is going
to be long and painful."

"Has anyone ever taught this child not to be so grim?" Stella asked,
finding she liked Adir better when he was passed out.

"I speak the truth. I find it hard not to tell of what is coming." Adir
said looking the woman in the eyes. "It has already tried to take two of
our women, and countless others here."

"I see." She said shaking her head. "Why am I not affected?"
"Do not know." Adir said shifting again. He was tired, and his head
was killing him. All he wanted to do was curl up with his lover.
Moving he laid his head against Mercer's shoulder. Sighing when the
man's arms came around him. He smiled grateful when he felt
Mercer's hand on his back, gently rubbing.

"Is this better?" Mercer asked. He felt Adir nod, and reached up to
gently rub the back of his lover's head.

"Why are we sitting here?" Dan asked.

"We're waiting for nightfall." Archer said. "Then it's time to play."

"Archer don't say that shit." Mercer groaned, hearing Jacy laugh
softly.

"Sorry Merc." She said softly. "And sorry Shen."

"It is ok." Adir said. "These witches had a thing for young men, and
the need to have sex."

"Oh." They all replied. Jacy and Jade were bright red, and Adir had a
half smile on his face as he looked at Mercer.

"I am sure, when I said procreate, I meant with you." Adir said
grinning at Mercer's startled look.

"Sure." He said. "Suns down, lets go kick some bad angry energy's
ass."

A laugh escaped the group as they got up, heading back towards the
area from where they had torn down the big top. The group stopped
around the site, not sure what they were supposed to do. They looked
to the CRDP, who was watching Adir.

"What?" Adir finally asked.

"Um kitten, are we just suppose to stand here?" Mercer asked, seeing
the boy look at him funny.
"No, we are to wait. Until the energy comes out to play." Adir said
yawning slightly. He turned big tired purple blue eyes on his lover.

"I know you're tired kitten, but we have to do this." Mercer said
wrapping his arms around Adir. Adir leaned heavily against his lover,
his eyes closing.

"They're back." Adir said in a singsong voice, making Mercer jump.

"Sorry could not resist since seeing that movie."

"Gunther, no more horror movies." Mercer hissed seeing the kid grin.
He turned back to the center area, with a sudden fire flared to life. The
group took a step back, their eyes searching for anything that was out
there. They could hear chanting. Gunther turned, looking at Archer
who was standing beside him.

"You got the gun?" Archer asked, letting his eyes scan Gunther's lean
body.

"No, what's the use, you can't Tranq energy." Gunther said. "Mercer
said that it would be useless, so why be weighted down."

"Ok, just stay close ok?" Archer said seeing the kid nod. Turning back
he watched the flames, and could almost make out shadows of what
looked to be woman. "Adir?"

"Just stay still." Adir replied softly moving closer into the circle.
Taking another step closer to the fire, Adir looked back at his
teammates. He stopped suddenly, his eyes moving to the sky.

"Shen?" Mercer asked taking a step towards the boy.

"It is ok, love." Adir said spreading his hands. If he could convince the
bad energy to let them go, then they could all walk away without
anything happening. But feeling something hit him in the chest
sending him flying he knew it wasn't going to be that easy.

"Shen." Mercer said as the boy slammed into him.

"I am ok." Adir said as he pulled himself back to his feet. He looked
up in time to see the fire that had been burning in the middle of the
clearing explode. They turned most of them hitting the ground to
avoid the flying fire and embers.

"Shit." Gunther hissed looking up as Archer pulled himself away from

the kid.

"You ok?" Archer asked reaching out to touch him.

"Yeah." Gunther said sitting up as Archer pulled back far enough. He

looked over to see Adir and Mercer struggling back to there feet also.
Adir looked pained slightly, and Gunther was pissed that something
could hurt his friend. He stood up with Archer's help.

He was about to let go when the ground started to shake, making him
grab onto Archer tighter. He looked up at the man seeing that Archer
wasn't doing much better with the shaking ground. He moved, trying
to back up with Archer but felt the pull towards the clearing.

"Archer, get these people out of here." Adir hissed, but was too late as
the ground heaved under them. Adir cried out, as he was thrown up,
along with several others into the air. Closing his eyes he pulled inside
himself, stopping a few feet up. Reaching out he grabbed Mercer's
arm as the man started to fall.

"Shen?" Mercer said looking up to see the boy smile at him. Another
boom sounded as more people were tossed into the air. Adir closed his
eyes, letting his powers spread out catching most of the people.

"Merc." Adir cried out, his eyes opening. Adir shifted, moving to
lower the people he had caught, finally though his hold gave out.
"Sorry."

"What?" Mercer asked seconds before Adir let go, and Mercer hit the
ground hard. He stumbled up just as Adir fell and managed to catch
the boy.

"Are you ok?" Adir asked seeing Mercer nod.

"Fine, and you saved those people." Mercer said setting the boy down.
Adir nodded, moving to block the fire that was heading towards them.
He cried out as it hit him in the back, his eyes widening slightly.

"Shen!" Gunther screamed catching the boy as he feel forward.

"I am ok, there is no way to fight this. It has no substance." Adir said
softly looking up at them. "Casimir can you track it?"

"Maybe, its got a weak trail though." Casimir said pulling his coat off
to wrap it around Adir. He looked back at the others who were getting
back up. "What does it want?"

"Revenge." Adir said softly. "It wants us to pay for its witches pain."

"Well it's not gonna get its fucking revenge, it can't have anyone
here." Gunther said seeing people look at him surprised.

"Gun." Adir said, but a scream ripped from his throat as he was
surrounded by blackness.

"Shen." Mercer hissed pulling his lover closer. But Adir continued to
scream, pain ripped through his small body. Reaching up he grabbed
onto Mercer, not realizing he was sending the pain to his lover. But
tried to pull back when he felt Mercer's pain.

"Let go…" Adir cried, softly through the pain until his voice rose up
again. He tried once again to pull away, twisting this way and that.

"No." Mercer said pulling the boy tightly against his chest. "Never,
never in this world."

"Mercer." Adir cried out throwing his arms around Mercer's neck to
cling tightly to him. Another cry escaped him when Gunther touched
his suddenly tender back; he arched back tears falling from his eyes.

"No!" Gunther yelled, turning to move towards the middle of the field.
"Let him go! You can't cause someone as innocent as him pain!"
"Shit Gunther." Adir said stumbling to his feet, he moved towards his
friend. He turned to see Archer and Mercer also standing. "Gun!"

"No, no more Shen! I won't let this goddamn thing hurt you." Gunther
hissed his hands shaking. Tears found his eyes; he knew Adir was still
in pain. He could feel it. He could also feel something else inside of
him, and seeing Adir's eyes widen suddenly knew something bad was
gonna happen.

"Shit," Adir said turning. "Get down, Merc get down."

"What?" Mercer said as Adir slammed into him again. He looked up

seeing Gunther was shaking and tears slipped down the kids face.
Seconds later, Gunther's hands unclenched, and it was like a bomb
exploded. Grass was ripped up in a circle away from Gunther. Trees
exploded as his power was released.

"Fuck." Mercer hissed rolling to block Adir from the blast. He

clinched his eyes, as another cry escaped Gunther and they felt
another wave shear over them. Pulling Adir tighter in his arms, he
wanted to curse. Pulling back slightly he looked down at the boy
under him. "Shen?"

"He is not done love." Adir whispered. "He is very angry this thing
hurt his friends."

"So that's how his powers are triggered?" Mercer asked glancing over
his shoulder at the kid. He could see Gunther was fighting the rise of
the power in his body. "What's it feel like?"

"A power surge, and he's fighting it which makes it very painful for
him." Adir tried to explain. He shook his head, seeing that he really
couldn't explain it.

"Why does he fight it?" mercer asked.

"Because it scares him." Adir said turning his face as another blast
went over them, more trees exploded. He heard dirt and wood pieces
fall onto the ground around them. "And he can not control it yet."
"Archer?" Mercer said looking sideways at the man. He could see
Archer was waiting for the chance to get to the kid, he watched as the
man glanced at him. Archer was bleeding slightly from his cheek.
"You ok?"

"Fine." Archer said his hands flexing into the ground beside him. He
was waiting for his break; he needed to bring Gunther down.

"Archer no." Adir said seeing the man look at him. "Do not get near
him right now."

"Adir." Archer started shifting again, as another blast went by them.

They heard someone scream, knowing that someone had tried to
escape Gunther's blast. "Shit."

"Gunther!" Adir hissed, he watched as the kid turned to him. "Calm

down."

"It's hurting you." Gunther hissed, as he closed his eyes. He was trying
to find a way to make the pain that ripped through him stop.

"But you are hurting you more, then it is hurting me." Adir said
standing. Mercer reached out, trying to grab his lover before the boy
could be hurt. He could hear Gunther muttering, but couldn't make it
out. He looked at Archer, knowing the man could hear the kid.

"What the hell is he saying?" Mercer hissed.

"I'm not sure, it's mutters." Archer said watching, as Adir was slow to
approach his friend.

"My Gunny, it is time to let the anger go." Adir said softly. "Please,
just take a deep breath and stop fighting."

"But it hurts." Gunther said tears slipping down his cheeks. He was
pale, and his eyes were filled with pain. "You have to get away from
me, or I might hurt you."

"Gunny." Adir said again, he stopped just a foot from his best friend,
eyeing the kid tightly held body.
"ARCHER!" Gunther screamed, and no one even saw the man move.
