1.

Consider the following network for a small maintenance project (all times are in Months; network
proceeds from node A to node H):
Activity Duration IPA (immediate Planned Daily Resource Contract
(Weeks) predecessor) (Daily Laborer) Budget (in Birr)
A 2 - 6 60,000.00
B 2 - 13 150,000.00
C 2 - 7 70,000.00
D 3 - 17 180,000.00
E 2 B 15 150,000.00
F 3 C 15 150,000.00
G 3 A &E 5 60,000.00
H 3 F&G 3 30,000.00
a. Draw the network diagram using both AoA and AoN.
b. Find the Earliest and Latest event time on the network diagram and the project completion time.
c. Determine the probability of completing the project within 12 months?

d. Using resource leveling method smooth the peak resource requirements throughout the project.
Solution
a) Network Diagram

(a) AoA (b) AoN

b) Critical path is B-E-G-H and the completion time for the project is 10 months.
c) The probability of completing the project at 12 months is Z=(x-µ)/δ=(12-10)/ 0.6666

d) Using resource leveling method smooth the peak resource requirements throughout the project.
2. Answer the following questions for the above project given in workout problem no.1 for its financial
schedule
A. Compute the financial schedule by considerably dividing equally the CBB to the months of the schedule
for each activity.

B. If the financial progress report at the end of fifth month shows that EV= 800,000.00, AC=900,000.00.
Compute for Cost Variance, Schedule Variance; Cost Performance Index and Schedule Performance
Index & discuss the performance of the project.
PV up to 5th month = 760,000.00 Birr (From Master Schedule), EV= 800,000.00 Birr and AC=900,000.00Birr
 CV = EV – AC = 800,000.00 – 900,000.00= -100,000.00 Birr. Cost overrun by 100,000.00 Birr
 SV = EV- PV = 800,000.00 -760,000.00= +40,000.00 Birr. The project is ahead of schedule.
 SV%= (SV/PV) x100 = (40,000.00/760,000.00)*100%= +5.26%.The project is ahead of schedule by 5.26%.
 CV% = (CV/EV) x100 = (-100,000.00/800,000.00)*100%= -12.5%. The project cost overrun by 12.5% of ACWP.
 SPI = EV/PV = (800,000.00/760,000.00)=1.05 Birr
 CPI= EV/AC = (800,000.00/900,000.00)=0.89 Birr
