What is all about safety motherhood (DOH PROGRAM)

-The Department of Health (DOH) Safe Motherhood Program is a nationwide


initiative in the Philippines aimed at ensuring that all Filipino women have access to
quality maternal healthcare services to experience safer pregnancies and childbirths.
It recognizes that safe motherhood is a fundamental aspect of reproductive health
and a key factor in the overall well-being of women and their families.

The program focuses on various key areas, including:


Antenatal care: Regular check-ups during pregnancy to detect and manage potential
risks.
Skilled birth attendance: Ensuring that births are attended by trained healthcare
professionals.
Facility-based deliveries: Encouraging women to give birth in health facilities
equipped to handle complications.
Emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC and CEmONC): Establishing and
strengthening facilities that can provide life-saving interventions for mothers and
newborns during emergencies.
Postpartum care: Providing care and support to mothers after childbirth.
Newborn care: Ensuring the health and well-being of newborns.
Family planning: Enabling women and couples to make informed decisions about
their family size and spacing of children.
Health promotion and education: Raising awareness about safe motherhood
practices and available services.

The DOH Safe Motherhood Program contributes to the national goal of improving
women's health and well-being and reducing maternal and newborn mortality and
morbidity in the Philippines.

Vision:

The vision of the National Safe Motherhood Program is for Filipino women to have
full access to health services towards making their pregnancy and delivery safer.

Mission:

Guided by the Department of Health's FOURmula One Plus thrust and the Universal
Health Care Framework, the National Safe Motherhood Program is committed to
providing rational and quality maternal and newborn health services, especially to
disadvantaged women, in partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) and other
stakeholders.
