The Influence of Music on Human Behavior and Emotions

By:Raiden B. Pesebre, Benice Loraine N.Gregorio, Franchesca Faye B.Villaflor,Sharmaine

Reighn O. Patriarca of 10-Patience

ABSTRACT

The importance of music in shaping human emotions and productivity in a work or study
environment has long been a topic of discussion. This research paper surveyed 100 Grade 10
students from Patience, Perseverance, Piety, Prudence, and Purity sections to explore the impact
of different types of music on their emotions and productivity in work or study environments.
The results revealed that music indeed has an impact on their emotions, mood, creativity, and
productivity. The majority of students used music to alleviate stress, and it helped them to get
their work done easily. Nevertheless, some students found music distracting or irritating but
overall, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the environment.

The implications of this study are far-reaching and could be used to promote high schoolers'
listening to music in work/study environments. Furthermore, the survey results showed that
students felt that music improved their concentration and productivity. Therefore, it is important
to create a comfortable and relaxed environment for students to listen to music. Implementing
this study could benefit both students and the organization as they would be more efficient and
productive.

In conclusion, this study shows that music has a favorable impact on emotions, creativity,
productivity, and stress reduction in work/study environments. Most of the survey results were
positive, indicating that students found music helpful in relieving stress and completing their
tasks. The implications of this study can be used to encourage high schoolers to listen to music in
work or study environments. Creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for students to
listen to music can result in an efficient and productive work/study environment that benefits
both the students and the organization.

INTRODUCTION

These days, people of all ages use music as a universal language for communication and
expression. There are many reasons why we listen to music: it helps us communicate our
emotions and feelings, escape from the outside world, and connect with our emotions. Pop,
electronic music, hip hop, heavy metal, jazz, country, R&B (rhythm and blues), and many other
genres are currently in style. According to studies, listening to music can reduce blood pressure,
anxiety, and discomfort while improving mood, mental clarity, memory, and sleep quality.
Mood and music are strongly correlated, and this can impact changes in mood such as happiness
or sadness.

Each of us has our favorite music genre to listen to while working or relaxing, some of us like to
listen to rock, edm, pop, hiphop, etc. Did you know that there are different genres of music that
can help you in different ways?, helps you remember, concentrate and other things. According to
studies, there are genres of music that can help improve study habits but may not be effective
for everyone because we have our own study habits. Another factor to consider is the volume of
the music, regardless of the genre. Music is so loud that it causes distraction. The first of this
music genre is classical music, it has many advantages. It can help reduce stress and even
improve sleep, as others call it the “Mozart effect.” Second, there is music that has little or no
lyrics. It's best to listen while reading because it's not distracting because there are no words.
Finally, there is ambient sound. Ambient noise includes surrounding sounds, such as birds
singing or waves crashing. , can help students feel more relaxed and this genre can also help
increase creativity levels. These are just some of the music genres that may help you.

This is our study's Review of Related Literature. According to the Cleveland Clinic (n.d.), music
can promote both healing and unity. The use of music or musical elements (such as tone, rhythm,
and harmony) to accomplish goals like reducing stress or improving wellbeing is known as
music therapy, and it can help people of all ages. Singing, playing instruments, writing songs,
and talking about the meaning of the song after listening to it are all part of music therapy.
Dementia, stroke, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, learning and
developmental disabilities, Parkinson's disease, and so on can all be managed with it. Given that
it promotes positive behavior, learning, and emotional growth, children can also gain from it.

Mood significantly improves by listening to music. Meditating and repetitive elements in

melodies can help to calm the brain and reduce impulses. When a person is listening to a song
that they seem to enjoy, their limbic system (the part of their brain involved in emotion
regulation) displays a significant increase in activity. As a result, music that evokes emotions has
a direct impact on one’s mood. Music can bring people together and help them feel as if they are
not alone. Listen to music if you want to escape a depressive state or simply want to feel more
relaxed.

The objective of our study is to know what the effects of various types of music to our mood,
creativity and productivity.

This study may be beneficial to students. They may find this study useful in determining the
genre of music to listen to while reviewing or working on assignments, projects, or other tasks.
METHODOLOGY

To identify the impact of different types of music on human emotion, mood, creativity and
productivity on a work or study environment,we will use a survey a quantitative research
approach.A survey is a technique to collect data from a sample of people by asking questions
with the goal of understanding populations. We chose to identify the impact of music on students
emotions, because it focuses on how way they relieve and skip on massive and stressful activities
without having depression and stress, where they can significantly influence their mood and
psychological well-being.

The survey questionnaires were used in data in research as the instrument, and used as the main
data-gathering for this study. The questionnaires are divided into two processes which are the
soft copy and hard copy to enable students to answer the survey easily. Survey properly explored
the experiences of the students on personal questionnaires. In the survey type, six choices are
provided by every question or statement.

We conducted our survey at Canumay East National High School on 100 out of 237 students in
grade 10. We chose to do the survey on the grade 10 students because they are on the same level
as us and we'll be able to approach them easier than the others. They have a busy schedule now
that they're about to graduate. So we thought that listening to music is one of the things they do
to cope with the distractions around them and easily do their task.

Out of the 237 grade 10 students at Canumay East National High School, 25 from each of the
five sections, we randomly selected 100 students as a sample. We used random sampling so that
we wouldn't have trouble choosing respondents or coming up with criteria for them, and so that
everyone could take part in our research for free to use. One section of students did not
personally complete our survey; instead, they were sent a link to complete it through a Google
Form, and some sections had more respondents than 25.

After we discussed our target respondents we created a Google Form survey consisting of six
questions. Every question is multiple choice, and some only accept yes or no answers. We shared
a link with our friends in different sections in grade 10. We've discovered that we're not receiving
as many respondents as we would like if we only allow people to respond online, so in addition
to sending out the survey link, we'll also print our questions and visit five parts of grade 10 to
obtain responses. This will help us reach our target of 100 respondents. When we receive their
responses, we enter them into the Google form so that we can more readily view or collect their
responses.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

These findings from 100 grade 10 students' answers to the six-question survey are presented in
this part of the

studying, has a significant impact on our mental health. Through analyzing the survey results, we
discovered that 10th grade kids like to listen to music and that each had a favorite genre that
improved concentration, increased creativity and productivity, and decreased stress. For the rest
of the people we surveyed, music is a distraction that makes them less focused, anxious, and less
innovative and productive at work. As the end result, music has many positive effects for us,
including improved concentration, stress reduction, and creativity and productivity.
