Numerical:
1. The main scale of a veriner calipers is calibrated in mm. If 19 divisions on main scale are equal to 20
divisions on veriner scale, then calculate its least count. (Ans. 0.05 mm)
2. The pitch of a micrometer screw gauge is 0.5 mm. If total divisions on circular scale are 50, then
calculate its least count. (Ans. 0.01 mm)
3. Calculate the electric force acting between two electric charges having values 2µC and 9 µC separated
by a distance of 3 cm. Take k = 9 x 109 Nm2/C2. (Ans. 180 N)

4. Calculate the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor having area 1 mm x 2 mm and distance
between two plates is 2 mm. Take ε0 = 8.85 x 10-12 C2/ Nm2 (Ans. 8.85 x 10-15 F)

5. Calculate equivalent capacitance of three capacitors having capacitance 1µF, 2µF and 5µF (i) for series
connection (ii) for parallel connection. (Ans. (i) 0.59 µF (ii) 8 µF

6. Calculate the wavelength of a sound wave having frequency of 440 Hz and velocity 330 m/s. (Ans.
0.75 m)
7. Find the velocity of a radio wave with a wavelength of 25 m and a frequency of 12 MHz. (Ans. 3 x 108
m/s)

8. If the velocity of light in a medium of 2.25 x 108 m/s, then calculate refractive index of the medium.
Take velocity of light in vacuum c = 3 x 108 m/s. (Ans. 1.33)
