ZIMBABWEAN LAW:
➢ Keep left and give way to traffic approaching from
right.
➢ Zimbabwe is a cattle country.
RURAL AREAS:
➢ Give way to traffic that enters the intersection.
URBAN AREAS:
➢ Give way to traffic approaching the right.
➢ Right of way applies to urban areas.
GOOD DRIVING HABBITS:
➢ Never park your car at a corner less than 7.5
meters.
➢ When being overtaken reduce speed.
➢ Never travel at a center or crown of the road
➢ Whenever turning right at a robot controlled
intersection you give way to pedestrians.
➢ At a zebra crossing you give way to pedestrians.
➢ Never cut corners.
➢ Before driving a vehicle you should check
underneath the car for either children or animal.
➢ Running over a person in rural areas you provide
first aid and carry that person to the hospital.
➢ Running over a person in urban areas you should
contact the police or ambulance.
➢ Running over a pet or domestic animal you stop
and try to find the owner.
➢ Never make unnecessary noise or do anything that
may irritate other drivers.
BAD DRIVING HABBITS:
➢ Are opposite of the good.
NIGHT DRIVING:
➢ You always dip your lights when;
i. Driving a proper lit street.
ii. When meeting other vehicles.
iii. When approaching a roadblock.
iv. When following behind other vehicles which
you don’t intent to overtake.
v. When approaching an accident seen
➢ Do not wear tinted glasses unless they are
prescribed for the night.
➢ Avoid being dazzled by the lights of oncoming
vehicle, if dazzled by the lights you cast your eyes
slightly to the left and remind such driver by lights
up and down once.
NB:
• Class 1 – Busses.
• Class 2 – Lorries
• Class 3 – motor cycles.
• Class 4 – light motor vehicles(cars)
• Class 5 – tractors

CLASS D: TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNALS.
➢ These include a robot.
➢ The sequence of a robot is;
RED>AMBER>GREEN(RAG) or RED GREEN
AMBER. -IT IS THE MECHANISM OF A ROBOT.
➢ The correct sequence of a robot is;
GREEN>AMBER>RED or RED>GREEN>AMBER. -IT IS
THE WORKING ORDER OF A ROBOT.
➢ The correct light sequence of a robot is
AMBER>RED>GREEN.IT IS A DAY TO DAY RUNNING
OF A ROBOT.
➢ Amber flashing robot you give way to your
right.
➢ The outstanding feature is the flashing light signal
which carries a red triangle on top and a circle.
• FLASHING LIGHT SIGNAL;
i. It emphasis the existence of danger warning
and regulatory traffic sign
➢ One can go through a rttted robot when it is in
combination with a green illuminated arrow
pointing to the direction of his/her travel OR if the
intersection is controlled by the police.
➢ The arrow shows that only traffic going straight
may proceed while all other are stopped because
of a red robot.
CLASS E: CARRIAGE MARKINGS.
These are markings that are marked on the road
surface for the orderly use of the road.
➢ Continuous white lines – I may not overtake.
➢ Broken white lines – I may overtake.
➢ Double continuous white lines – I must not cross
the lines at any given time.
➢ Double Continuous white line with broken line at
the center- must not cross
➢ Continuous white lines with broken white lines –
the vehicle with broken white lines on its side may
overtake.
➢ Transverse lines – are stop lines.
➢ Broken yellow lines – marks the edge of the road
and one may only cross them when overtaking
traffic to the right or when one wants to stop.
➢ Longitudinal lines – are there to demarcate the
center of the road.
➢ Diverging lines – are one which forms two.
➢ Direction arrows – used in conjunction with a
prohibition line have a regulatory effect.
➢ One can straddle or cross broken yellow lines if he
or she wants to stop or ovrertaking traffic turning
right.
OTHER NOTES;
➢A motor cycle carries one passenger.
➢A valesolex carries none passangers.
➢For a motor cycle to carry a passenger it must
have proper pillion sit and foot rest.
➢A motor cycle with engine capacity of 350 cc
must be fitted with crush bars.
➢Motor cycle uses the left lane.
➢A crush helmet is a safety device for
motorcycle.
➢Cyclist must ride in a single file.
➢Bicycle must not carry luggage of more than
40 kg.
➢A person under the age of 16 must not carry a
passenger on a bicycle.
➢A heavy vehicle can tow no more than 3
trailers and it’s a vehicle exceeding 2300 kgs
net mass.
➢A heavy vehicle for a test should be 5000 kgs
net mass and 7 mtrs long(lorry).
➢Safety chains must be fitted when towing
trailers.
➢When a heavy vehicle breaks down a red
reflection triangle should be placed 30-50
mtrs rear and of the vehicle.
➢A heavy vehicle carries 2 triangles for each
trailer and 2 for the horse(head).
➢A faulty steering wheel has a 45 degree of
free play.
➢A full steering wheel has 360 degree.
➢When driving a low speed you should keep to
the left lane of the road.
➢When there are three lanes when going
straight you use the you use the center lane
whilst traffic turning left will be using left lane
and traffic turning right uses the right lane.
➢When you are in a straight ahead lane you
don’t turn.
➢Turning left from a one way street into
another road you take the left lane.
➢Turning left from a one road into another take
the left half of the road.
➢When changing lanes procedure , SIGNAL
INTENTION> CHECK MIRRORS> CHECK BLIND
SPOT.
➢Starting engine procedure ,CHECK HAND
BRAKE>DEPRESS CLUTCH>GEAR INTO
NEUTRAL>TURN KEY ON>CHECK
DASHBOARD>START THE ENGINE.
➢Change down procedure, RELEASE
ACCELERATOR>DEPRESS CLUCTH>SELECT
GEAR>RELEASE CLUTCH>ACCELERATE IF
NECESSARY.
➢The legal maturity age for heavy vehicle is 18
yrs.
➢The legal maturity age for light vehicle is 16
yrs.
➢The legal maturity age for public transport is
25 yrs.
➢Public service vehicles are: bus, taxi curb,
commuter bus, lorries which carry public
goods.
➢Number plate colours: red on white>public
service vehicle) *black on yellow>private
vehicle)
➢A serious accident should be reported to the
police as soon as possible within within 24
hrs.
➢When stopped by the police you have 7 days
to produce your driver’s licence.
➢When refueling your car with petrol switch off
the engine and avoid naked flames.
➢To prevent spillage you make sure that the
filler cap is properly sealed.
➢Safety belts were made compulsory for all
vehicles registered on 1 january 1980
(01/01/80).
➢A seat belt must be put on each time you
driver by any driver even ambulance or
motorcade driver. It is only not necessary
when reversing.
➢When you here a siren of a police, ambulance,
presidential motorcade pull off the road and
stop.
➢One can overtake an animal drawn
vehicle(wagon) by whichever side is safe.
➢Heavy vehicles are instructed to stop at all
rail/road crossing level.
➢For every 15 km at one travelling you leave a

➢A highway code is under CVR 56.
➢Blind spot is spot not seen by a mirror.
➢Hazard perception is a dangerous place or
anticipation of what is in front or a black spot.
➢Defensive driving certificate is valid for 4
yrs(48 months).
➢A vehicle certificate of fitness is valid for 6
months.
➢Certificate of competence is valid for 1 yr.
➢Provisional licence is valid for 1 yr.
➢Driver’s medical certificate is valid for 1 yr.
➢Reflectors at the back of the vehicle are RED.
➢Reflectors at the front of the vehicle are
WHITE.
➢Reflectors at the side of the vehicle are
YELLOW.
➢Chevron is coloured in RED and YELLOW.
➢The colours of an indicator are RED and
AMBER.
➢A person with a tractor permit is entitled to
drive tractors and other earthmoving vehicles.
➢A steering handling position should be 10-2
position with thumbs running along the
steering wheel.
➢Weight is usually associated with bridges so
you consider wait at a bridge.
➢At a narrow bridge you consider width.
➢Fog lights are used when there is mist.
➢Switch your lights on from 5:30 pm to 6:30
am.
➢Histalix and marijuana (all narcotics) are
examples of stimulants which affect vision
judgement when used whilst driving.
➢Asprin, ampetin and panado are examples of
depressants which affect vision and
judgement when used before driving.
➢If you are impaired by the use of alcohol or
drugs you stay off the road.
➢If you took some cough medicine you read the
label if it affects driving.
➢Defensive driving is practicing good driving in
order to avoid accidents regardless of the
errors or other drivers.
➢It takes an average driver half a second to
brake in case of an emergency.
➢In case of emergence we use brakes. If there
are no brakes we use a hooter.
➢You don’t hoot for a learner or vehicle
displaying n L plate or animal.
➢Hooter is for the safety of the public.
➢For one to drive you need a drivers licence.
➢For a vehicle to be used on the road it needs
registration book ,vehicle licence, insurance.
➢When parked at night or at a lay bye you put
on park lights(put off headlights)
➢When parked on the side of the road you put
on tail lights.
➢An abnormal vehicle(A/V) must move with its
escort and is prohibited to be on the road
from 6pm up to 6am.

INTERSECTION CONTROL
• There are four ways of controlling an
intersection;
1) Stop sign.
2) Giveway sign.
3) Police men/women.
4) Robot.
• STOP SIGN
➢ Stop immediately behind the stop
lines and give way to traffic from both
sides.
• GIVEWAY SIGN
➢ You do not necessarily have to stop
but you give way to all crossing traffic.
• POLICEMEN
➢ Follow the rule of the policemen even
if the robot is working.
• ROBOT
➢ Follow the correct light sequence of
the robot, AMBER RED GREEN.
