CONTENTS
Note: Certain calibration activities may necessarily have to be subcontracted and, where this
is to be the case, suitable entities shall be selected on their capability of provision of
the requisite levels of services, turn round times and certified records of calibration
traceable to the National or International Standards applicable.

4.0 Procedure
4.1 Responsibilities
Project Manager:
• To ensure the timely and adequate availability of required MME.
Construction Manager:
• To ensure that MME is used as required in order to substantiate compliance of works;
• To ensure that MME is made available for calibration as and when required.
Quality Manager:
• To determine the MME required to inspect and test the works to specified requirements;
• To establish a requisite MME control system appropriate to the project needs;
• To ensure implementation of calibration required for MME in use at the project;
• To update and maintain MME records on an ongoing basis;
• To verify subcontractors’ MME controls, calibration and records prior to and throughout
use on the project;
• To establish acceptable tolerance ranges for error detected during calibration of each type
of equipment.
ORASCOM CONSTRUCTION LIMITED
Equipment Users:
• To ensure that only calibrated MME is used for monitoring and measuring required to
demonstrate attainment of specified requirements;
• To ensure use of MME as prescribed by manufacturers
• To protect MME from damage, adjustments or deterioration whilst in use;
• To report any damage to MME or concerns about its integrity immediately upon its
discovery.
Stores Controller:
• To ensure proper traceability for all MME
• To ensure custody of MME as prescribed by manufacturers;
• To control and issue of only calibrated MME;
• To quarantine, to await re-calibration, any MME reported to be:
o damaged;
o of suspect integrity
o outside its calibration period.
4.2 Equipment Calibration Log (ECL)
Immediately upon project commencement the Project QC Manager shall establish the
Equipment Calibration Log (ECL) detailing for each item of monitoring and measurement
equipment.
Note: Refer to FM-QA-07-01.
4.3 MME Initial Calibration
The Project QC Manager shall ensure that all MME equipment is in a known and valid state of
calibration prior to its initial use and throughout its use on the project, ensuring that:
• Calibration status for MME transferred from another project is checked;
• Newly procured MME is supplied with manufacturers’ calibration certificates.
Note: Where new MME equipment has been supplied:
• Without manufacturer’s calibration certification, equipment shall be subject to
calibration by a CSP prior to its use;
• With manufacturer’s calibration certification, equipment is unused in its original
unopened packaging but where, due to the period held in stock by its supplier, the
calibration certificate validity period has elapsed, the equipment shall be recalibrated.
4.4 MME Labelling / Tagging
The Project QC Manager shall ensure that all MME:
• carries unique identification reference;
Note: If MME does not already have unique serial numbering provided by its manufacturer
the Quality Manager shall ensure that this is assigned and marked indelibly.
• has a calibration label / tag prominently displayed, either on its body or its container,
identifying the equipment serial number.
4.5 MME Continuing Calibration
The Project QC Manager shall ensure that the ECL is reviewed on a weekly basis to highlight
equipment with calibration coming due.
Note: The ECL has been developed using Excel to highlight equipment calibrations due
dates automatically through a colour-coding scheme related to the number of days
prior to calibration due dates, as follows:
The Stores Controller or person normally in charge of the MME due calibration shall withdraw
it from use and ensure that where equipment is to be calibrated:
Note: Where subcontractors are responsible directly for calibrating MME the Quality Manager
shall obtain and retain copies of their calibration certificates / records.
Refer to Attachment 2 for minimum calibration requirements.
