Before the interview

How to prepare for an interview

Moving on to the interview stage means that your experience, knowledge and skills described in your CV/resume more
or less match what the company is looking for.

However, there are still competitors at the interview step. Every company is looking for different experience, knowledge
and skills, and it is difficult to improve experience, knowledge and skills in a short period of time, but the one thing they
have in common is a strong desire to work for the company. Motivation can make a big difference simply by being
aware of how to prepare in advance and how to be prepared. It is no exaggeration to say that the success of an
interview depends on how well you have prepared beforehand, so don't be lazy in your preparation and go fully
prepared to the interview.

■ Employers' objectives.

During the interview, employers want to evaluate candidates on the following three main points.

(1) Qualities: does the applicant have the ability to solve problems as stated in the CV/resume?

(ii) Motivation: Is the applicant motivated, enthusiastic about the job and able to work on his/her own initiative?

(iii) Applicant fits into the organization: Is the applicant adaptable and able to communicate smoothly?

These factors lead to confirm the degree of contribution to benefit and treatment expected from the applicant.

≪ Supplementary explanation.

However, the interview is not only for the employer to evaluate the applicant. The positions of the applicant and the
employer are equal and the interview is "for the applicant." Remember to approach the interview from the perspective
of determining whether you can achieve what you are looking for in your new job by accepting that role at that
company.

2. Preparing for the interview

Interview Attitude

(i) Positive and enthusiastic about everything.

→1) Be positive and motivated in everything you do.

(2) Answer questions clearly and loudly, looking the other person in the eye.

person asking the question.

(iii) Speak logically and concretely.

→Answer questions with a "conclusion," and be creative and specific, for example, by giving examples or giving
numbers. Even if you give examples, keep your answers brief, no more than two or three minutes.

4) Listen to the interviewer with a sincere attitude.

→When listening to the interviewer's speech, just as with the way you speak, pay attention to your listening attitude by
looking the interviewer in the eye and lightly giving a few words of support.

(5) Conduct a thorough research of the company.

→ Read the company's website and other information in advance to get a good understanding of the company's
business and job description.

■ Personal appearance on the day of the interview.

It is important to be careful not to "make interview attendees feel uncomfortable," even when wearing clothes and
personal items that show your personality.

→Æ Pay attention to whether the suit, shirt and tie have a good sense of matching.

Shoes - Keep them suitably polished.

Avoid mules, sandals and boots, and choose discreet colors such as black or dark brown.

Hairstyle - Keep hair clean and avoid excess brown hair. Avoid excess brown hair.

Perfume

Hairstyling

Avoid too strong a fragrance, as it can make the other person feel uncomfortable.

→If you wear perfume, it is polite to limit it to a faint scent.

Beards

Nails - Keep your beard (shaved) and nails (trimmed) trimmed.

-Nail polish should be clear or a natural color.

→Æ Fashion nail polish is also unsuitable for certain sectors and occupations.

Accessories

Avoid flashy accessories and excessive makeup, and try to look fresh and clean.

Other ・Investigate the company's location, telephone number, transport connections and travel time in advance.

→ In the case of professional recruitment, it is normal to arrive at the reception desk 5 to 10 minutes before the
interview begins.

However, try to arrive at the venue early and allow enough time to go to the restroom.

Factors that can lead to rejection.

Factors that can lead to rejection

of these factors can be prevented by making prior preparations and changing your mindset, so read on.

(i) Lack of motivation to join the company.

3. interview content and key points to answer.

Regardless of the type of job you are applying for, communication skills, such as comprehension and expression, are
important in the selection process. Listen carefully to the questions and understand what is being asked before
answering. In the unlikely event that you do not understand the question, be sure to ask again and avoid giving an
answer that is out of place.

In your answers, state the "conclusion" first, which should be conveyed, and then add specific examples or background
information. Also, limit your answers to a question to one to two minutes (three minutes maximum).

The following are general tips only. If you are unsure how to respond to a particular question, consult your advisor.

≪ Supplementary information≫ Tips for giving concise and apt answers (general method of answering).

Question: "What is your motivation for applying?

Answer: "I am attracted to your company's ◇ ◇ ◇ points in business xxx. By ○○○○○○○○".

If there are more than two answers:.

Answer: "There are two: one is XXX and the other is △△△△△. I will be more specific about XXXX."

(If there are more than three, they should limit themselves to three responses at most. (Any more than
that and you may not be coherent or you may forget what you are trying to say.)

Frequently Asked Questions.

① Please introduce yourself.

State a summary of your name and work history (department and job description in chronological order).
The interviewer will have read your CV and resume, so keep it brief. This is also a question to confirm that what is
written on your CV is true. It is advisable to re-read the contents of your CV and resume first.

Points - Be concise and easy to understand.

Is it concrete (no mentalism)?

What did you learn and gain there, and how can you use this knowledge in the future?

Can you answer in detail about your work?

Points - Are the reasons positive and future-oriented?

Do they only speak ill of the company you want to leave?

Is the relationship within the company smooth?

Have you made efforts to resolve the reason for your resignation (or do you want to resign)?

③ What is the reason you want to work at the company and why did you apply for the position?

It is important that you can relate your previous career to the career you want to acquire in the company in the future.

It is also important to include information about the company's strengths in the industry and other aspects of the
company that appeal to you.

Key points - Do you know the company?

How well do you know the position?

Is it relevant to your career plans and can you build on your career to date?

④ What kind of career do you want to pursue in the future and what do you want to do?

Clarify the points of contact between your previous career and the career you wish to acquire in the company in the
future, and state how you would like to play an active role in the company.

Points - How do you plan to build on your previous experience and what do you plan to work on?

Are you too idealistic (do you understand the gap between the current situation and your ideals)?

Are they concrete?

⑥ Tell us about your strengths and weaknesses (what you are good at and what you are not good at), what major
failures have you experienced so far?

Strengths are not personality issues, but business advantages, intertwined with successes at work.

The interviewer's purpose in asking about any lack of skill or failure is to determine if the applicant is someone who can
grow from his or her failures. Include how you have dealt with failures and what you have learned from them.

However, it is advisable to supplement your strengths with a statement about your weaknesses, such as "If I had to say
it, I would say that sometimes I am too ____".
Key points - Can you look at yourself objectively?

Can you relate what you are good at to this job?

Can you include specific examples to support your answer?

How did you address your weaknesses?

How did you deal with your failures?

⑥ What do you think is important in this position?

This question asks about your attitude toward the job. It is important that your answer is not idealistic or mentalistic,
but based on the job description you are applying for and the skills required.

Points - Do you know the job well?

-Do you have a correct understanding of what the job responsibilities and accomplishments are?

⑦ Any final questions?

Always ask a few questions that are relevant to your motivation and the job description. Proactive questions from the
candidate are a way to communicate your interest in the company and your enthusiasm to join: check the website and
prepare and write down in advance any questions that may relate to your reasons for applying for the job. At the end of
the interview, you can review your notes and check the questions.

However, terms and conditions of employment, such as salary and benefits, are very important, but should not be
mentioned in the first interview. It could be misinterpreted as only caring about benefits.

Although you may not be able to ask about them at the interview, it is possible to find out more about them later from
your consultant.

⑧ (If you are applying for a position in which you have no experience or that is different from your previous job) Why
do you want this position?

Please respond to your reasons by including an appeal to the skills and experience that are more or less relevant to the
position you wish to apply for in your previous career. It is also a good idea to explain how you can work hard and
address areas in which you do not have experience.

⑨ How do you spend your vacations and what are your hobbies?

Basically, you can answer within the bounds of common sense.

However, the intention is to see if you are the type of person the company or position you are applying for is looking
for, so it is advisable to check with your advisor beforehand about the type of person the company or position is looking
for and get an idea of how to respond.

■ Difficult questions to answer.

⑬ How do you deal with disputes with your boss or subordinates?

Many people leave their jobs because of interpersonal problems in the workplace, so interviewers look to see if you can
establish smooth relationships in a new environment. If you are applying for a management position, this will also help
determine your management skills per se. Answers should use concrete experiences, but as with the reason for leaving,
be careful not to badmouth your boss or subordinates.

⑮ (If there is a blank in your work history) What is the reason for the six-month blank?

In the same way as if you have changed jobs many times, state that everything you have done during the blank period
has been positive and that you want to use the experience gained during that time in your future job.

⑯ Are there any other companies you would join besides ours, and if we make you an offer, are you sure you would
join us?

This question probes your willingness to join the company. If you really want to join the company, say so frankly. If it is
not your first choice, it is best to give a vague answer such as "I would like to think about it positively," while still
indicating that you are willing to join the company. Please discuss with your advisor beforehand how you would respond
to each company, especially if there are several jobs being presented to you.

Also, while it is not at all negative to have more than one company to apply to, it is important to be consistent in your
reasons for applying for a job. If you are going to give examples of other companies you are applying to, make sure they
are in the same industry and job category as the company you are interviewing with.

⑱ (For positions requiring relocation) Are you able to relocate and can you work overtime?

If you are able to work overtime, clearly indicate at the outset that you are able to do so. If there are difficult
circumstances, confirm with your consultant beforehand whether or not you are transferable and the average overtime
at the company you are applying to and discuss how to answer the question.
