LH Starters 10 – Unit 4 - Lesson 1 & 2

Aims:
Students can:
- identify, read write Family vocabulary
- understand and able to use possessive adjectives.
- get to know irregular plurals.
- get to know about present simple with “do”.
- Ask and answer questions for one's name, age, interest.

Vocabulary:
NOUNS:
Family, Man, Woman, Baby, Child, Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother, Father,
Children, Sister, Cousin, Person, People, Photo, Card, Birthday, House, Cake,
Bookcase, Clock, Ice-Cream, TV, Boy, Girl, Clock,

Irregular plurals
VERBS: Live, Put, Come, Smile, Eat, Sleep, Watch
ADJECTIVES: Old, Young

Materials: Computer, Speakers, Screen, mini-whiteboards

Activity Time
Introduction:
- Greet students and engage them in basic conversation
with questions such as “what is your name, how old are
you, do you like ______”
- Class rules: Speak English, no fighting, no ‘me, me, 15 Mins
me’/raise your hand, sit, nicely, be quiet and listen
- Check homework

Sing
- 10 little numbers
- Give students a choice and let them pick their favorite
song.
Daily conversation

- Write out questions on the board and ask students to read


them out. (What is your name, how are you, what is your
favorite sport, why? (related vocabulary)
- Ask students what the answer would be for each 10 Mins
question, elicit to get the answer form (My name is ….,
My favorite colour is….Do you have brothers or
sisters?)

- First place students in pairs and designate them a


number (1 or 2). Instruct students they will read out the
dialogue. Monitor the class as they speak.

- After, ask each pair to come top the front of the class to
perform.
Vocabulary: (PowerPoint)

Introduce new vocabulary and structures:


- Teacher will show students at PPT presentation about
the key vocabulary from the unit. 10 mins
- Teacher should practice pronunciation of each word
- Teacher will then go around the class and ask individual
students to identify the name of a colour or object.

Rock paper scissor game:

- Students will be split into pairs and also handed a game


sheet. In this game, both students will start from the
bottom sentence and try rise to the top of the pyramid by 10 mins
reading the sentences. With each round, the students will
play rock paper scissors, and the winner will progress to
the next sentence (they must read out the new sentence).
Then students play again. If that student then loses, they
will have to take a step back down the pyramid. The first
student to the top of the pyramid will win!
- - If there is time, have the winners play the winners to
find the ultimate champion

Student book

Activity 1: Listen and repeat


- Students listen to the dialogue 15 mins
- Teacher asks individual students to be a character and
then read out the story in a pair.
- Teacher asks students concept questions (what is her
name, where are they ect..)

Activity 2: Read and say yes or no


- Students answers the questions with their partner and
then teacher will ask for the answer
- Write out the correct form of the answer, ask student to
copy.

Activity 3: Say, count and spell


- Students read out each picture

Break 10 mins
Running dictation 20 mins

- Ten different (related vocabulary) words will be stuck


separately around the room. Put students into groups of
2/3. Instruct students that they must find each word,

memorize what is written, run back to their table and


write down each word. Students cannot remove sentence
on the wall/take a picture. Spelling must be correct for a
team to finish. The first team to write down all sentences
will be the winner

Activity 1: Listen and point


- Extra, ask students how to spell different colors and
which one is their favorite.

Activity 2: Say together

Activity 3: Listen, point and spell


- Students look at the objects and spell them with their
partner

Bingo:
- Ss have to choose 6 words from the selection teacher
writes on the board. All will be words from Unit 12.
When T calls out the word then they have to cross out 15 mins
the square in their grid. First S to have all their answers
crossed out shouts bingo.

Homework, Candy, points & Tidy up 5 mins
