IIT Mandi for Even Semester 2024-25.

School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCENE) of IIT Mandi is inviting

applications for the first round of admission process in the M.Tech. (Research),
M.Tech. (R) + Ph.D. (Dual Degree) and Ph.D. programme in a variety of disciplines
and interdisciplinary areas under Regular Full-Time, under sponsored Project, Self-
sponsored and Part-Time mode for the even semester, 2025 at IIT Mandi.

Ph.D. Admissions

Applicants for admission to the Ph.D. program shall be classified as per the mode of
application and application category under any one of the following categories which
will be decided and recommended by the admission committee. Applicants must
mention their application category in the online application form.

A. Regular Full Time Ph.D. with fellowship.

B. Regular Full Time Ph.D. (fellowship from the sponsored Project).

Minimum Eligibility Criterion for Appearing in Admission Process.

Qualifying Degree (as mentioned above):

1. Master’s or equivalent degree in Engineering/Technology And/OR

2. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent*

*For qualifying degree listed under (2) candidates must also fulfil ONE of the
following additional requirements:

1. Qualified GATE / NET or any other equivalent National level examination.

2. Selected through a National level examination conducted by MoE or its
agencies /Institutions such as UGC/ IITs/ IISc./IISERs/ IIITs etc.
3. Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (acquired after
obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the
semester in which admission is sought).

*Exemptions from mandatory requirements of valid GATE or National Level

examination:

1. B.Tech./B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical
Institute)/ any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall
category) at the time of application/ any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or
universities with CGPA/CPI of at least (on a scale of 10) or equivalent as per the
Institute guidelines below.

a) UR : 7.5 CGPA
b) OBC (NCL): 7.00 CGPA
c) SC/ST/PwD: 6.5 CGPA

2. BS-MS/M.Sc./MA/MBA/equivalent from IITs, IISERs, IISc, IIMs or any of the top

100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of
application with a CGPA/CPI (on a scale of 10) or equivalent as per the Institute
guidelines below.

a) UR : 7.5 CGPA
b) OBC (NCL): 7.00 CGPA
c) SC/ST/PwD: 6.5 CGPA

Financial Support: Students joining the Ph.D. Regular program may be considered
for the HTRA Fellowship (subjected to availability of fund) based on the Institute
norms, if recommended by the selection committee.

Eligibility and Minimum Educational Qualifications: -

1. The candidate must possess B.E./B.Tech. or M.Sc. or equivalent Degree (as
mentioned above) with a valid GATE Score for HTRA fellowship.

2. B.Tech./B.E. from CFTI institute (National Level examination i.e. GATE/NET is

waived off for HTRA fellowship) with CGPA/CPI at least (on a scale of 10) or
equivalent as per the Institute guidelines below.

b) OBC (NCL): 7.00 CGPA
c) SC/ST/PwD: 6.5 CGPA.

Important Guidelines for Applications.
 Please read the instructions given in the brochure carefully before filling up
the applications.
 B. E./AMIE / Other Equivalent exams are considered as B. Tech.
 M. E. / M. S. (by Research) / M.Tech. (by Research) or other equivalent exams
are considered as M. Tech.
 Applications with incomplete data will be rejected.

 Candidates with B. Tech in branches / specializations other than specified in

the dropdown list should select others and specify their branch /
specialization in the text box provided.
 If you have your grade in CGPA/CPI, represent your CGPA/CPI out of 10.
 The eligibility criteria mentioned above is minimum and the Institute
shortlisting committee(s) may use higher cut-off levels for shortlisting.
 Employed candidates seeking admission to M. Tech (by research)/Ph.D. must
submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their current employer at the time
of interview.
 Mode of Interview: - The shortlisted candidate will be called for interview.
Interview will be in hybrid mode (both online and offline).
 Interview will be of the qualifying nature.
 Applicants are advised to fill the specialization preference carefully through
Samarth application portal. First three choices/preference may be
considered for processing the application as per the shortlisting criteria
by the panel members. Candidates are advised to fill choice/preference of
discipline on the application portal accordingly. Candidate should submit
separate application for multiple discipline/programs.
 Reservation policies as per prevailing GoI rules will be followed.
 The decision of the competent authority in all matters relating to the eligibility
of the candidate, written test/Interview and admission would be final and
binding on all the candidates. In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur
in the process of admission the decision of the Institute shall be final.
 All the details furnished in the online application will be treated as final and no
changes shall be entertained. Non submission of valid/required documents
and/or incomplete application shall be summarily rejected.

 Note: Industrial or Academic Institute Sponsored or Part-time or Self
sponsored M. Tech (by research)/PhD candidates are not eligible for HTRA
scholarships.
