Role of Women and Students in the Freedom Movement
Introduction:
The fight for independence was not only led by men but also by women and
students, who played very important roles. They showed courage and worked hard to help
achieve freedom.
In this assignment, we’ll talk about four women who made big contributions to the freedom
movement, and also about how students helped during this time.

1. Lady Abdullah Haroon


Who Was She?
• Lady Abdullah Haroon was a well-known leader and social worker. She was married to Sir
Abdullah Haroon, a famous political figure, but she was also a strong political activist
herself.

What Did She Do for the Freedom Movement?


• Support for Pakistan: Lady Abdullah Haroon supported the idea of Pakistan and worked
with the Muslim League to help make Pakistan a reality.
• Encouraging Women: She encouraged women to join the movement and fight for
independence. She believed women’s participation was very important.
• Helping the Poor: She also helped poor people and refugees during the Partition of India
and worked on social welfare projects.

2. Fatima Jinnah
Who Was She?
• Fatima Jinnah was the sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. She is
called "Mother of the Nation" because of her huge role in Pakistan's creation.

What Did She Do for the Freedom Movement?


• Helping Her Brother: Fatima Jinnah worked closely with her brother to create Pakistan and
was a strong supporter of the Muslim League.
• Fighting for Women’s Rights: She fought for women’s rights and believed that women
should be equal to men in all areas like education and politics.
• Running for President: In 1965, Fatima Jinnah ran for president of Pakistan, showing that
women could hold important positions in government.
3. Amjadi Bano Begum
Who Was She?
• Amjadi Bano Begum was an activist and supporter of the Pakistan Movement. She was
very passionate about women's education and rights.

What Did She Do for the Freedom Movement?


• Promoted Education for Women: Amjadi Bano Begum worked hard to make sure that girls
and women could go to school and learn.

• Spreading Awareness: She encouraged women to join the Pakistan Movement and be part
of the fight for independence.

• Helping During Partition: During the Partition of India, she helped provide medical and
social support to people who were displaced and suffering.

4. Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan


Who Was She?
• Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan was the wife of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali
Khan. After his death, she continued his work and helped improve the lives of women and
children in Pakistan.

What Did She Do for the Freedom Movement?


• Helping Women and Children: After her husband's death, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan
worked on education, healthcare, and welfare programs for women and children.

• Started Women’s Organizations: She helped set up the All-Pakistan Women’s Association,
which worked to improve the condition of women in Pakistan.

• Political Advocate: She also worked for women to have more rights and be more involved
in politics.
Role of Students in the Freedom Movement
Students played a big part in the freedom struggle. They were full of energy and helped in many
different ways.

How Did Students Help?


1. Protests and Demonstrations:
Students were part of big protests against British rule. They would march in the streets,
raise slogans, and demand freedom. They were often arrested or beaten by the police but
continued to fight for independence.

2. Spreading Ideas of Freedom:


Students worked hard to spread the idea of independence. They would write leaflets, give
speeches, and hold meetings to tell people why they needed to fight for their freedom.

3. Sacrifices:
Many students made huge sacrifices. They were arrested, tortured, and even killed during
the protests, but they kept fighting for the cause.

4. Intellectual Contribution:
Students also helped by writing books, articles, and giving speeches about why Muslims
needed a separate country. Their ideas helped inspire many people to support the Pakistan
Movement.
