The story of Audi is one of engineering excellence, innovation, and prestige.

Audi's roots
date back to the early 20th century, beginning with August Horch, a German engineer and
automobile pioneer. After a disagreement with his first car company, Horch founded a new
company in 1909. Since he could no longer use his own name (Horch) due to legal issues,
he chose the Latin translation of "horch," meaning "listen" — and thus, Audi was born.

Audi quickly gained a reputation for high-quality engineering and innovation. However, in
1932, during a period of economic hardship, Audi merged with three other German car
companies — Horch, DKW, and Wanderer — to form Auto Union. The now-famous four-ring
logo of Audi represents the unity of these four companies.

During the 1930s, Auto Union became known for its powerful racing cars and technological
advances, particularly in Grand Prix racing. After World War II, however, the company
struggled to rebuild. It wasn’t until the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union, that
Audi began its modern revival.

In 1965, the company reintroduced the Audi brand with a fresh image, launching models that
combined advanced technology with sophisticated design. One of Audi’s biggest
breakthroughs came in 1980 with the introduction of the Audi Quattro, a revolutionary sports
car with all-wheel drive. The Quattro dominated rally racing and changed the way
high-performance cars were designed, making all-wheel drive a key feature for sports and
luxury cars.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Audi evolved into a true luxury brand, rivaling BMW and
Mercedes-Benz. Models like the Audi A4, A6, A8, and the Audi TT gained fame for their
combination of sleek design, performance, and advanced technology. Audi also became a
pioneer in lightweight construction with its use of aluminum and led the way in automotive
lighting technology with innovations like LED headlights.

In recent years, Audi has embraced the future of mobility, heavily investing in electric
vehicles and autonomous driving technology. The Audi e-tron series represents its
commitment to sustainability and innovation in the electric vehicle market.

Today, Audi is recognized worldwide for its slogan "Vorsprung durch Technik" — meaning
"Advancement through Technology" — and stands as one of the top premium car brands,
known for blending performance, luxury, and cutting-edge innovation.

From a small German company to a global symbol of technological advancement, Audi’s


story is about precision, progress, and always looking toward the future.
