Lecture 14-15 Using modern technologies in teaching English

Plan
1. Technology in language teaching and learning
2. Synchronous learning
3. Asynchronous learning

1. Technology in language teaching and learning.

The popularity of the Internet and computer technologies among young people and in society
as a whole has created serious grounds for the successful integration of ICT into educational
process. When teaching foreign languages an important place is given to ICT, which allows the
introduction of new technologies, new techniques, shifting the emphasis to the independent work
of a student, making the training diverse. This situation increases the effectiveness of the class-
room work and makes the independent work of students more efficient. There is an opportunity
to use the Internet as a teaching tool both for training all types of speech activity, and for re -
search work and education.
The use of ICT in the learning process at school makes it possible to activate the cogni-
tive, mental and independent activity of students, to intensify the educational process. Informa-
tion technologies make it possible not only to change the forms and methods of educational
work, but also to significantly transform and enrich educational paradigms.
Application of ICT:
•expands the scope of the educational process;
•contributes to its practical orientation;
•increases the motivation of students in learning
• creates conditions for successful self-realization of the individual;
•develops and deepens interdisciplinary connections;
• develops creative abilities of students, their independence;
• improves the quality of knowledge on the subject..
The use of information and communication technologies and multimedia means allows to
activate the cognitive activity of students, increase motivation to study the subject, create addi -
tional conditions for the formation and development of communicative skills and language skills
of students. The use of this technology helps to make the transition from reproductive forms to
independent, creative types of work.
•Various forms of work, such as pair work, group work, project work, are used in the
lessons using the technology of communicative learning. Especially important is the formation of
the skill of spontaneous speech (for example, dialogues in pairs with a constant change of partic-
ipants).
•When explaining new material, computer presentations, videos, educational films, video
clips, excerpts from animated and feature films, electronic applications are used for clarity.
In the classroom, with the help of modern technologies, it is possible to solve a number of
didactic tasks: to form reading skills and abilities using the materials of the global network; to
improve the writing skills of schoolchildren; to replenish the vocabulary of students, thereby
forming motivation to learn English.
The forms and technologies used for teaching English implement competence-based and
personal-activity approaches, which in turn contribute to the formation and development of:
•a multicultural linguistic personality capable of productive communication with speakers of
other cultures;
•students' ability to carry out various activities using English;
•cognitive abilities of students;
• their readiness for self-development and self-education, as well as contribute to increasing the
creative potential of the individual to carry out their professional duties.
Forms of work with computer training programs in foreign language classes include: vo-
cabulary study; pronunciation training; teaching dialogic and monologue speech; writing train-
ing; working out grammatical phenomena.
Modern methods of teaching English
•Audio-lingual
The basis is the auditory perception of foreign speech in combination with the analogy
method used when memorizing new words: the student remembers the basic vocabulary and fre-
quently encountered language constructions, which facilitates the subsequent independent con-
struction of sentences.
The methodology is also good as a group option (including for exam preparation)
•Communicative
The basis is conversational practice, diverse communication in the language being stud-
ied, which allows you to overcome the notorious language barrier with amazing ease.
Combines:
1) communication in English from the very first lesson, even for language learners "from
scratch";
2) the use of superbly crafted textbooks, the material of which can be successfully applied
in everyday life.
•The game form of learning has been used for a long time, but with the development of
technology has become more in demand. Both adults and children love to play. During the game,
they get positive emotions that contribute to memorization.
Design technologies
Project technology is the implementation of research and creative projects by stu-
dents.This form of work creates favorable conditions for the development of students as an inde-
pendent, creative person. To create a presentation paper, students need to find the right material
using various information sources, including the Internet. Creating a project in the form of a pre -
sentation makes it possible to choose and explore the chosen topic, to show and develop creativ-
ity and independence at the same time.
Project work teaches students the ability to correctly select material and navigate the flow
of information. Working on projects develops imagination, creative thinking, independence and
other personal qualities. In the course of foreign languages, the project method can be used as
part of the program material on almost any topic.
Testing technology
Testing technology is used to control the level of assimilation of lexical and grammatical
knowledge within the module at a certain stage of training. The implementation of control using
testing technology meets the requirements of all international examinations in a foreign lan-
guage. In addition, this technology allows the teacher to identify and systematize aspects that re-
quire additional study.
General recommendations for teaching children:
Combine. Do not limit yourself to just one way, it will be better if the child is familiar
with all possible options and chooses several that he particularly likes.
Experiment. The teacher has the right to depart from the classical canons if he is sure that
it will benefit. Watch cartoons, social short films, clips, read comics in the lesson.
Come up with author's methods. It often happens that a teacher, after working with chil-
dren for several years, can independently create several original working methods. For example,
learning to speak by voice messages or by writing posts on social networks.
The use of information technologies contributes to the improvement and improvement of
the quality of the educational process, enriching the arsenal of methodological tools and tech-
niques that allow you to diversify the forms of work and make the lesson interesting and memo-
rable for students.
