Resources: Oxford book Materials : Flashcards (with pictures of different
Grammar booklet people and their belongings).
Small objects (e.g., pencils, erasers, books) for
demonstration.
Word cards (possessive adjectives & pronouns).
Sentence strips with missing words.
Whiteboard and markers.
Lesson title: possessive adjectives and pronouns Lesson duration: 2 sessions ( 90 min)
Lesson objectives: By the end of the session, students will be able to:
Recognize and use possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their).
Recognize and use possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs).
Differentiate between possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns in simple sentences.
Use possessive adjectives and pronouns in speaking and writing activities.

Day
Warm up: Organization & Time Resources
• Teacher holds up a pencil and asks: "Whose Whole class
pencil is this?" 5 mins
• Teacher gives the pencil to a student and
asks: "Is this my pencil or your pencil?"
• Repeat with other objects (e.g., books,
erasers) to create curiosity.
• Encourage students to respond in full
sentences: "It is my pencil." / "It is her book."
• Introduce the topic: "Today, we will learn
how to talk about things that belong to us
and others!"
Lead in: Whole Class
• Show pictures of different people with their 5 mins
belongings (e.g., a boy with a hat, a girl
with a bag).
• Ask: "Who does this hat belong to?"
(Students guess).
• Write a sentence on the board: "This is his
hat." and underline his.
• Repeat with other examples, slowly
introducing the words my, your, his, her,
our, their.
Main: Whole class
30 min
Step 1: Introduce Possessive Adjectives

• Write on the board:


o I → my (This is my book.)
o You → your (That is your bag.)
o He → his (That is his hat.)
o She → her (These are her shoes.)
o It → its (The dog is eating its
food.)
o We → our (This is our classroom.)
o They → their (These are their
toys.)
• Explain: "We use possessive adjectives
before a noun to show who owns
something."

Step 2: Introduce Possessive Pronouns

• Write on the board:


o Mine → This pencil is mine.
o Yours → The book is yours.
o His → The shoes are his.
o Hers → The bag is hers.
o Ours → The classroom is ours.
o Theirs → The toys are theirs.
• Explain: "We use possessive pronouns
when we don’t say the noun again."

Step 3: Compare

• Write on the board:


o This is my book. → This book is
mine.
o These are their toys. → These toys
are theirs.
• Ask students what is different and
highlight that possessive adjectives come
with nouns, but possessive pronouns
stand alone.

Activity: Group work


Activity: "Find the Pair" 25 minutes
• Prepare two sets of word cards:
1. Set 1: Possessive adjectives (my,
your, his, her, our, their)
2. Set 2: Possessive pronouns (mine,
yours, his, hers, ours, theirs)
• Instructions:
o Spread the cards on the floor.
o Each pair takes turns picking one
adjective and one pronoun.
o They must form a correct sentence
using both words.
o Example: "This is my pen. This pen
is mine."
o If they match correctly, they keep
the pair. If not, they put the cards
back.
o
Activity: "Whose Is It?"
• Each pair gets a small object (pencil,
eraser, book, bag, etc.).
• One student asks, "Whose pencil is this?"
• The other student answers using a
possessive adjective first, then a
possessive pronoun.
o "This is my pencil." / "It is mine."
• The roles switch.
Differentiation for weaker students:
• Provide sentence starters:
o This is ___ pencil.
o The pencil is ___.
• Model the sentences first before students
practice.
Review: 10 minutes
Step 1: Mini Quiz (Whole Class)
• Write sentences with missing words on the
board. Example:
o This is ___ (my/mine) book.
o The bag is ___ (hers/her).
• Students vote on the correct answer (raise
hands).
Step 2: Review the Key Rule
• Ask: "When do we use possessive
adjectives?" (Before a noun).
• Ask: "When do we use possessive
pronouns?" (Without a noun).
• Give thumbs up/thumbs down
statements to check understanding.
o "This is his pen. This pen is his."
