Biochemistry

The document outlines the procedures and results of Molisch's and Benedict's tests for detecting carbohydrates. Molisch's test indicated the presence of sugars in all samples (glucose, fructose, and starch), while Benedict's test confirmed glucose and fructose as reducing sugars, with starch remaining a non-reducing sugar. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of both tests in identifying different types of carbohydrates.

Carbohydrate:Molisch’s and Benedict’s Test

Introduction:
-Molisch and benedict’s test used to select or limitation
type carbohydrates by detectors (reagent) ,each one of
them has a use in laboratory.
1. molisch test is not a specific test that means it does not
reveal selected type of sugar but it works for revealing all
type sugar such as
monosaccharides,disaccharides and oligo, this test
commonly uses education target.
2. Benedict's test is spesfic, work for reveal
monosaccharides and some disaccharides only cause this
type reducing.

TOOLS:
o Dropper

o test tube

o test tube rack

o beaker for water bath for benedict's test

o sulfuric acid Iml for Molisch's nanhthol 2 dron for

Molisch
o Benedict's reagent

o many sample of carbohydrate

METHODS:
molisch test:
We put 3 test tubes on the bench and put 2 drops of naphthol,
Then we added glucose to the first test tube, fructose to the
second, and starch to the third , each one of them put 10drop
of sample.
Then we added 1 ml h2so4 For each sample.
Benedict's Test:
Three test tubes, each containing 10 drops of the following
sugar sample: glucose, fructose, and starch. We added
Benedict's reagent, Then we took the test tube samples and
put them in a water bath.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
molisch test: in three sample the results was positive that
meaning is three sample is sugar.

The results of the Molisch test showed that all three samples (glucose, fructose
and starch) were positive, indicating the presence of carbohydrates in all
samples.
This test is non -specific and detects the presence of any type of sugar.

Sample Result Interpretation

Glucose Positive Sugar present

Fructose Positive Sugar present

Starch Positive Sugar present

Benedict’s Test:
Benedict's test showed that glucose and fructose exhibited a
color change to brick red, indicating the presence of
reducing sugars. Starch, on the other hand
did not change color, indicating that it is a non
reducing sugar. This is consistent -with the known fact that
glucose and fructose are reducing monosaccharides
while starch is a non - reducing polysaccharide.

the result was great and successfully ,Where the tube containing glucose and
fructose had turned color brick red After the water bath.
The tube containing the starch did not change color; it remained blue After the
water bath.
