Learning Resources
A. References K to12 Curriculum Guide 2016
Grade 2 – Mathematics pages 28
1. Teacher’s Guide pages TG in Mathematics pages 26-30
2. Learner’s Materials pages LM in Mathematics pages 16-18
B. Other Learning Resource Number cards with DRR visuals (e.g., "200 volunteers"), Whiteboards and markers and Worksheet with DRR-themed
problems
III. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson Show number cards (1-100) and ask pupils to read them aloud.
Flash a "Disaster Hotline" number (e.g., *911*) and ask: "Do you know this number? When do we call it?" (Discuss
emergencies like fires or floods.)
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Tell the pupils that they are going to Read and write numbers up to 1 000 in symbols and in words
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson Real-World DRR Examples:
Show numbers in evacuation center reports (e.g., "250 families evacuated").
Display emergency supply quantities (e.g., 500 bottles of water, 100 blankets).
Model: Write "325" on the board and read: "three hundred twenty-five families."
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 Guided Practice:
Use a DRR-themed number chart (e.g., numbers paired with images of relief goods). Pupils take turns reading/writing
numbers like:
"600" (six hundred meals packed)
"1,000" (one thousand pesos donated).
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 Interactive Game: "Disaster Relief Count"
Show pictures of aid items (e.g., 345 canned goods, 720 rice packs).
Pupils write the number in symbols and words on their whiteboards.
F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative Assessment 3) Worksheet:
Part 1: Match numbers to words (e.g., "750" = "seven hundred fifty").
Part 2: Solve a DRR word problem:
"An earthquake damaged 125 houses in Barangay Gibacungan. Write this number in words."
G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily Role-Play:
living Pupils pretend to be reporters sharing disaster stats:
"Good morning! The fire department helped __ (900) families today!"
Discussion: "Why is it important to know big numbers in disasters?"
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson How do you read and write numbers? How do numbers help rescuers? What if we write '100' as '10'—what could happen?
I. Evaluating learning Answer Assessment 1 and 2 on page 18
J. Additional activities for application or remediation Assignment: Create a "Disaster Preparedness Poster" with numbers (e.g., "Store 3 gallons of water per person!").
