CONTEST MECHANICS
1. The competition is open to all bona fide students of public grades 3-6 elementary
students. There will be at most 3 participants per grade level.
2. Test Questions will focus only on the K to 12 Most Essential Learning Competencies
(MELCs) in Quarter 1 and 2.
3. The science quiz will be held in two (2) phases in a sudden-death type competition.
Phase 1 will be the Qualifying Round (to be done inside the classroom), while Phase 2
will be the Quiz Show.
a. For Elementary: The qualifying round will be conducted through paper-and-pencil
test. The number of items varies by key stage:
i. Key Stage 1 = 20 items
ii. Key Stage 2 = 30 items
4. Only the Top 10 in the Phase 1 will proceed in the Phase 2 (Quiz Show). All contestants
are required to bring at least 20 sheets of long size (8.5” x 13”) bond paper and a
permanent marker in Phase 2 round.
5. There are three rounds in Phase 2, characterized as:
a. Easy – 10 items, multiple-choices questions, 1 point each correct answer.
b. Average – 5 items, short-responses questions, 3 points each correct answer.
c. Difficult – 3 items, short-responses questions, 5 points each correct answer.
6. Only the Top 5 ranked by highest scores (1 st to 5th place) per Grade Level will be declared
as winners.
7. Coaches are not allowed to enter the quiz room/venue during the contest.
8. Only the contestants may raise a complain to the chairman or quiz master. Complaints
and protests raised outside/after the competition will not be entertained.
9. The Chairperson reserves the right to allow or restrict certain equipment or materials to
be used during the quiz.
10. The decisions of the Event Chairperson and Judges are FINAL and IRREVOCABLE.
