How can I view the transceiver data and A0/A2 information on the Broadcom Emulex Fibre Channel adapters?

Answer
You can use the following methods to view the transceiver and A0/A2 information on the Emulex Fibre Channel adapters:

A. Using hbacmd via the Emulex HBA Manager Command Line Interface (CLI)
B. Using the ESXCLI Management Utility
C. Using the Emulex HBA Manager Graphical User Interface (GUI). On VMware, use the Emulex HBA Manager for VMware vCenter

NO T E: The Emulex HBA Manager application was previously known as the OneCommand Manager application.

Before you can view the data, do the following:

• Make sure the Emulex driver is installed.


• Download one of the following applications depending on the installed operating system:
a. If you will be using one of the Emulex HBA Manager Applications, download the Emulex HBA Manager Enterprise (for both
the CLI and the GUI) or the Core Application Kit (for the CLI only) from the Broadcom website.
b. ESXCLI Management Utility
c. Emulex HBA Manager for VMware vCenter

NO T E: After downloading the Emulex HBA Manager Application Enterprise or Core Application kit from the Broadcom website, install
it on the host.

1. Type the command below to list the available adapters and the corresponding WWPNs.
hbacmd listhba

2. Use the syntax below to view the transceiver data on the specified adapter WWPN.
hbacmd getxcvrdata <<em>wwpn< em>=""></em>wwpn<>

3. Use the syntax below to retrieve the A0 and A2 information.

1. After downloading the ESXCLI Management Utility from the Broadcom website, install it on the ESXi host.
2. On the ESXi host on which the ESXCLI Management Utility is installed, type the command below to list the adapter and identify the
WWPN.
esxcli elxmgmt hba list (for ESXCLI Management Tool version 12.6 and newer) or esxcli elxmgmt listhbas
(for ESXCLI Management Tool version 12.4 and older)

3. Use the syntax below to view the transceiver data.


esxcli elxmgmt xcvrdata get -w <WWPN>

4. To retrieve the A0 and A2 information, use the following syntax:


esxcli elxmgmt xcvrdata get –w <WWPN> –t 2

NO T E: For detailed information on using the Emulex HBA Manager GUI, refer to the Emulex HBA Manager Application User Guide or
the Emulex HBA Manager Application for VMware vCenter for VMware.

NO T E: The A0 and A2 information is not available in the Emulex HBA Manager GUI. Use one of the CLI options to view this
information.

1. Start the Emulex HBA Manager GUI by running the script (in Linux or Solaris), the executable file in Windows, or launching the
application from the VMware vCenter Server.
2. Select the Host view
3. In the Emulex HBA Manager discovery-tree, select the port whose transceiver information you want to view.
4. Select the Transceiver Data tab. Figure 1 shows a sample screenshot of the Transceiver Data tab from the application running on a
Windows host. Figure 2 shows a sample screenshot of the Transceiver Data tab from the Emulex HBA Manager installed on an
ESXi host.
