Music is important in the life of many people. It is a form of art that existed even during the ancient times. In this
chapter, we will learn how music was developed in the 20th century and brought various changes in the musical world.
It is a period where composers or musicians acquired independence in writing their music. Their own ideas were
brought and expressed out. The use of technology was also utilized in their compositions. This chapter will also help us
gain more understanding on the 20th – century stylistic styles such as Impressionism, Expressionism, Electronic music,
and Chance Music and get to know some important figures such as Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Arnold
Schoenberg.

SITUATION
Suppose there will be a live musical performance to be held in school. The
students must create and perform a chance music composition, embracing the
principles of chance and indeterminacy in their musical expression.
PRODUCT
1. The students need to select a theme or concept for their Chance Music
Composition.

2. The students may incorporate different improvised accompaniments for their


performance. They need to consider the unique aspects of their chosen
instruments and how chance procedures can be applied to their performances.

3. The final product is a live musical performance of their chance music


composition. This will enable them to embrace the principles of chance and
indeterminacy in their musical expression.
