Writing: Free Time Activities


 Writing rules:
o Use “or” to connect two alternatives.  I read books or magazines.
o Use “and” to add information (similar ideas).  I play football and I do karate.
o Use “but” to show contrast.  I go to fast food restaurants, but I don’t like chips.
o Use “because” to give reasons.  I don’t listen to classical music because I don’t
like it.

They are very active. They always do their homework very fast so they can play and enjoy the rest of

Grammar: Possessive Case


 Rule 1:
o To show possession of singular nouns, add an apostrophe and s (‘s).
 Example: the boy’s name / Mr Johnson’s class
 Rule 2:
o To show possession of plural nouns ending in s, add an apostrophe (’) at the end
of the noun.
 Example: the babies’ toys / the chairs’ legs
 Rule 3:
o To show possession of plural nouns NOT ending in s, add an apostrophe and s
(‘s).
