Aerodrome Marking and Regulations

401.04.02 Marquage de l’aérodrome


 RAC 301.04 (1): Remove markers when the aerodrome is permanently deactivated.
 RAC 301.04 (2): For non-water aerodromes, install red cones or flags along unusable
areas.
 RAC 301.04 (5): Mark closed sections of taxiways or runways with closed zone markers.
 RAC 301.04 (7): Remove open markers when maneuver areas are permanently closed.
 RAC 301.04 (8): Use visible colors to mark closed areas when painting is impractical
(e.g., snow-covered areas).
 RAC 301.06 (1): Install a visible wind direction indicator if the wind cannot be
determined by other means.

401.04.03 Balisage d’aérodrome


 RAC 301.07 (1): For night operations, white lights on both sides of the runway visible
from 2 NM.
 RAC 301.07 (5): Use blue lights or reflective markers on taxiways.
 RAC 301.07 (9): Mark closed, unusable parts with red reflective lights or cones.

Proximity Procedures and Regulations

 Applicable to VFR and IFR aircraft at or near controlled and uncontrolled aerodromes.
 PIC Requirements Before Operations: Ensure no collision risk.
 PIC Duties While Operating Near an Aerodrome:
 Monitor traffic to avoid collisions.
 Follow the traffic circuit or maintain separation.
 Execute left turns unless specified otherwise.

Special Requirements
 Controlled aerodrome operations require clearance from ATC.
 Below 2,000 Feet Operations: Allowed for specific activities like law enforcement,
humanitarian missions, and aerial photography.

 MF: Mandatory frequency for specific areas around uncontrolled aerodromes.

VFR Instrument and Meteorological Conditions

401.06.01 Minimum Instruments for Day VFR


 Gliders must have:
 Altimeter, airspeed indicator, compass, and two-way radio for controlled airspace.

401.06.02 Minimum Visual Meteorological Conditions for VFR Flight in Controlled Airspace
 Requirements:
 Visual reference to surface.
 Minimum 3-mile visibility.
 500 feet vertical and 1-mile horizontal separation from clouds.
 Ground visibility ≥3 miles in control zones, 500 feet AGL minimum.

401.06.03 Minimum Visual Meteorological Conditions for VFR Flight in Uncontrolled Airspace
 At or above 1,000 feet AGL:
 Day visibility: ≥1 mile.
 Night visibility: ≥3 miles.
 500 feet vertically and 2,000 feet horizontally from clouds.
 Below 1,000 feet AGL: Day visibility ≥2 miles, clear of cloud.

Memory Tool for VFR Meteorological Conditions


 3 1 5: Controlled airspace (3 miles vis, 1 mile horizontal, 500 feet vertical).
 1 2 5: Uncontrolled above 1,000' (1 mile vis, 2000' horizontal, 500' vertical) DAY.
 2 C: Uncontrolled below 1,000' (2 miles vis, clear of cloud) DAY.

Special Visual Flight Rules (SVFR)

401.06.04 Special Visual Flight Rules (SVFR)


 For conditions below VFR in a control zone:
 PIC must request and be authorized.
 Ground visibility ≥1 mile.
 Equipped with appropriate radio communication.
 Aircraft must remain clear of clouds, with visual reference to the ground.
 Night SVFR: Only for takeoff, landing, entering, or exiting the control zone.

 1 – 7 Feb 2025: Qualifying Exam.
 8 – 15 Feb 2025: Marks from QE distributed.
 16 May 2025: Medical certificates due.

 Report Card: June 2024.
 Medical Certificate: TC CAT 1 or CAT 3 Aviation Medical Certificate.
