Report Overview
As a part of the architectural curriculum, it is required in this report of “Site
Supervision” to be exposed to different stages of construction during internship
tenure at one or more project site and to understand and document:
• The process of communication between the design consultant
and the project site, including inspection schedules and the
system of records for drawings/revisions/comments, and
• The process of executing a design at site, including the key
features to be inspected, and
• Safety parameters and protocols at site.

Preface
This report is an outcome of the 20-week internship program. The objective of this
exercise is to understand and experience the actual process of construction and
execution on the site

Communication Process
• Architects send all the construction drawings also called Good for construction
drawings (GFCs) to the site supervisor or contractor in the sequence of the work required
to be done at site.

• Site supervisor or Contractor keep close check in the site in terms of design as per
drawings, work progress, quality, budget, schedule, workers, and expense, assess hazards,
determines risks, etc.

• On finding any discrepancies by the workers, site supervisor or contractor is informed

and the problem is discussed with the concerned project architect/ senior architect
handling the project.

• If the discrepancy is minor supervisor is informed with the required changes and the
work continues.

• If the discrepancy is major or some design changes after issuing the GFCs, again a fresh
set of sheets with the updated changes are issued to the site with a revision number R1
and so on.

• Once in a while or whenever required the senior architect/ project architect/ architect
working on the project visits the site to check the progress, discuss with client on work
updates, etc.

• Minutes of the meeting is made based on the conversation between both sides in order
to keep record of all the discussions and as a proof of the discussions made between
client and project representative.

• Discussions done are evaluated in a meeting after site visit with the whole project team
including the principal architect.

• Implementation/ steps are taken based on the discussion.

ladder. Also make sure the ladder is not greasy or slippery. Ladders must be long enough to
reach the working area safely.
• Avoid using metal ladders when near any source of electricity.
• Exercise caution whenever there is an open source of electricity on site.
• Watch for and maintain a safe distance from electrical lines.
• Exercise caution when stairways are wet and slippery.
