ARALING PANLIPUNAN 6

I. Objectives
Within 150 minutes, approached with appropriate strategies; given with
related activities, 90% of the Grade 6 pupils will be able to:

a. Identify and explain the meanings of the flag’s colors (white, blue, red,
yellow) and symbols (sun, stars)
b. Develop a sense of national pride and patriotism through
understanding the flag’s history and significance
c. Create visual projects (e.g., posters, drawings) that showcase the
Philippine flag and its significance.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity
The class will be divided into three groups.Each group will work on
a different aspect of the Philippine flag. Each group will have 15-20
minutes to complete their task. After completing their task, each
group will present their work to the class.

Group 1: Flag Colors. Write down the meaning of the colors (red,
blue, white, and yellow) of the Philippine flag and their significance.

Group 2: Flag Symbolism. Write down the meaning of the sun with
eight rays and three stars of the Philippine flag.

Group 3: Flag History. Write a short summary about the history of


the Philippine National Flag.

Group 1 Flag Colors


Meanings of the colors (red, blue, white, and yellow) of the Phili
flag.

Red – Represents courage, bravery and patriotism, and the blood


of the Filipinos shed for the country. It symbolizes the people’s
bravery and willingness to fight for freedom and independence.

Blue – Rpresents peace, truth, and justice. It Symbolizes the


Filipino people’s aspiration for a harmonious and just society.

White – Represents purity, equality, liberty and peace. It


symbolizes the Filipino people’s aspiration for a clean just and
independence.

Yellow – Represents gold or wealth. It symbolizes the country’s


natural resources and the potential for prosperity

Group 2 Flag Symbolism


Meaning of the sun with eight rays and the three stars of the
Philippine flag.

THE SUN WITH EIGHT RAYS - The sun symbolizes freedom,


liberty, and hope. The eight rays of the sun in Philippine flag
represents eight provinces that revolted against the Spanish rule in
1896. These provinces are :
1. Manila
2. Cavite
3. Bulacan
4. Laguna
5. Batangas
6. Pampanga
7. Nueva Ecija
8. Tarlac

3. Mindanao

Group 3 Flag History


Short summary of the History of Philippine flag

Designed by Emilio Aguinaldo (1898) First raised on June 12,


1898 The flag was first raised in Kawit, Cavite, during the
proclamation of Philippine Independence. Symbol of National Pride
and Identity. The flag featured a white equilateral triangle with a
blue field, a red field, and a golden sun with eight rays. During the
American colonial period, the flag was modified to include the
American colors.

C. Abstraction

The Philippine Flag symbolizes the nation’s freedom, independence,


and the aspirations of Filipino people.

It is the nation's emblem for freedom. It symbolizes patriotism, love of


country and sense of nationhood and embodies the aspirations and
sentiments of the Filipino people in their unceasing quest for
independence. It stands as instrument of unity that binds the Filipino
people.

D. Application

The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will create a poster
that showcases the Philippine flag and its significance, include the
meaning of the flag’s colors and symbols. Add important historical
events related to the flag.

Grading criteria of your artwork will be graded based on :

Content Are the meanings of the flag's colors 40%


(blue, red, white, and yellow) and
symbols (three stars, sun, and triangle)
correct and complete.
Design and Is the poster visually appealing, well- 30%
Visual Appeal organized, and creative.
