To assess the level of knowledge regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene among
senior secondary school girls in rural and urban Patna
To analyze the attitude of school girls towards menstruation and menstrual hygiene
practices.
To evaluate the menstrual hygiene practices followed by adolescent girls in different
socio cultural setting.
To identify the socio cultural factors influencing menstrual hygiene management in
rural and urban Patna
ASSUMPTION
There is significance difference in menstrual knowledge between rural and urban school
girls
Socio cultural believes and taboos strongly influence attitudes towards menstruation
Limited access to menstrual hygiene products effect the practices of rural school girls
more than urban school girls
Education and family background play a crucial role in shaping menstrual hygiene
awareness and practices.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
1. MENSTURATION - A natural biological process in which the uterine lining
shed through vagina, occurring in females of reproductive age, typically on a
monthly cycle .
2. MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT - The practice of using clean and safe
menstrual caps products, maintain proper personal hygiene, and having
access to educate sanitation facilities during menstruation.
3. KNOWLEDGE ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE - Awareness and understating of
menstruation, including its biological process, hygiene practices and health
implication among senior secondary school girls.
4. ATTITUDE TOWARDS MENSTRUATION - The perception, believe in feeling of
adolescent girls regarding menstruation, including cultural norms, taboos
and openness to discussion about menstrual health.
5. MENSTURAL HYGIENE PRACTICES – The action and behaviors adopted by
adolescent girls maintain hygiene during menstruation, such as the use of
sanitary pads, frequency of changing products, washing practices and
disposal methods.
6. SANITARY PRODUCTS – Items used for menstrual hygiene management,
including sanitary pad, tampons, menstrual cups and cloth pads.
7. MENSTRUAL TABOOS AND RESCTRICATIONS – Social and cultural limitations
placed on menstruating girls and women, such as restriction on entering
religious places, cooking or interacting with certain people.
