Question 1: Composition (20 Marks)


Write a composition of 300-350 words on any one of the following topics:

(a) Describe a time when you faced a major challenge and how you overcame it.
(b) "Technology has made life both easier and more complicated." Express your views either for or
against the statement.
(c) Write a short story ending with the words: "...and that was the moment I realized the true
meaning of friendship."
(d) "A day without electricity." Describe how you spent such a day.
(e) Imagine you are an environmental activist. Write a speech persuading students to take action to
protect the environment.

Question 2: Letter Writing (10 Marks)


Write a letter on any one of the following:

(a) Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing concern over the increasing number of
road accidents in your city and suggest measures to improve road safety.
(b) Write a letter to your friend narrating an interesting event that recently took place in your school.

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:
Passage:
Once upon a time in a quiet village nestled between two hills, there lived an old storyteller named
Mr. Rao. Every evening, children gathered around him to listen to his fascinating tales about kings,
warriors, and magical creatures. One evening, as the golden hues of the setting sun bathed the
village, Mr. Rao began a story about a lost kingdom buried deep beneath the sea. As he spoke, the
children's eyes widened in wonder. They imagined castles made of coral, treasure chests filled with
gleaming gold, and mermaids singing enchanting melodies. But just as Mr. Rao was about to reveal
the kingdom's secret, he paused and smiled. "That," he said, "is a story for another day."

Questions:
(a) Give the meaning of the following words as used in the passage: (3 Marks)

(b) Answer the following questions briefly: (10 Marks)


1. Where did Mr. Rao live?
