ONLINE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

February 15-19, 2021

Department of Mechanical Engineering organizED AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL)

Academy sponsored Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘3D Printing and
Design’ during February 15-19, 2021 at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and
Technology Hyderabad. FDP attracted 300 participant registrations, out of which 161 were
approved. A total of 110 participants belonging to 21 states of India attended the program
virtually. Program was conducted online using CISCOWebex platform.
Online FDP was inaugurated on February 15th, 2021 by Dr. Guruprasad Rao, Director and
Mentor, Imaginarium India Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai. Dr. C. D. Naidu,Principal, VNRVJIET, Dr. A.
Subhananda Rao, Director R&D, VNRVJIET, Dr.
B. Chennakesava Rao, Director for Advancement and Dean Administration, VNRVJIET, Dr.
G. Srinivasa Gupta, HOD-ME and Dr. Y. Shivraj Narayan, Coordinator of the ATAL FDP
graced the occasion.
Chief Guest Dr. Guruprasad Rao mentioned that 3D printing is transformingthe lives of many
through its wide application in different sectors. During his key-note address, Dr. Guruprasad
emphasized on the emerging trendsin 3d printing especially with reference to the technology,
materials,software, post-processing and its applications. Day 1 concluded with a talkon “3D
Printing and its Innovative Applications” by Dr. L. Siva Rama Krishna, Associate Professor,
University College of Engineering Osmania University Hyderabad.
On Day 2 of the FDP, 02 technical sessions were conducted namely “Fundamentals of 3D
Printing” by Dr. Arvind Kumar, Associate Professor, IIT Kanpur and “Materials for 3D
Printing” by Mr. Rakesh Koppunur, National Manager, VSD 3D Enterprises, Hyderabad.
This was followed by a session “Stress Management through Heartful Meditation” by Mrs.
Aruna Konda and Miss. Sai Meghana Konda, Heartfulness Trainers from the Heartfulness
Institute Hyderabad.
Day 3 of the FDP started with a session on “3D Printing and its Applicationsin Dentistry and
Maxillofacial Surgery” by Dr. Arvind Ud, Surgeon from Dr.Arvind’s Oral and Maxillofacial
Clinic Hyderabad. This was followed by a technical session “Design for 3D printing” by Dr.
Yeole ShivrajNot

 On Day 4, Mr. Balaji of iforge3d Technologies, Hyderabad gave an online demo on how to
perform topology optimization of 3D printed parts. This was followed by a session on
“Applications of 3D printing in Aviation Industry” by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar, Associate
Professor, NIT Warangal. Day concluded with a session by Dr. M. Ravi Sankar, Associate
Professor, IIT Tirupati on “postprocessing and finishing of 3D printed parts”.
Last day of the FDP commenced with an Online Demo session on DLP SLA by Mr.
Yogendra Srivastava, Founding Director, VSD 3D Enterprises,Hyderabad. This was followed
by session of Dr. Arvind Kumar, Associate Professor, IIT Kanpur on “How Metal Additive
Manufacturing can contribute to IoT Based Manufacturing and Industry 4.0”. FDP was
concluded with a technical session on “Standards, Qualification and Certification of 3D
Printed Parts” by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar, Associate Professor, NIT Warangal.
To summarize, the FDP had a total of 14 sessions, out of which 10 were technical talks, 03
online practice and demo and 01 meditation session All the sessions were recorded and
feedback obtained through Google Form.
FDP concluded with the valedictory function on February 19, 2021. Dr. Sriram Venkatesh,
Director, Center for Product Design, Development and Additive Manufacturing, Osmania
University was the Chief Guest. The session was also co-chaired by Dr. A. Subhananda Rao,
Director R&D, VNRVJIET, Dr. B. Chennakesava Rao, Director for Advancement and Dean
Administration, VNRVJIET, Dr. G. Srinivasa Gupta, HOD-ME and Dr. Y. Shivraj Narayan,
Coordinator of the ATAL FDP. Dr. Sriram Venkatesh congratulated the organizers for
organizing FDP on 3D Printing and stressedupon importance of 3D Printing and the need to
make use and share 3D Printing resources available at Osmania University and other
institutions.
The FDP was praised by all the participants for the topics, contents and speakers of the
sessions. Dr. Pankaj Gajbhiye and Mr. Himanshu Gupta participants thanked the department
for organizing the FDP and informed the audience that this is the first time they attended such
a FDP covering various fields and applications related to 3D Printing.
This was followed by an Online Assessment conducted using Google Forms.
