Course Contents:

Module I: Introduction to Business Research 15 lecture hours


Definition of Business research, Types of research, Process of research, Research applications in
Business decisions, features of good research study. Formulation of research problem and
development of research hypotheses: defining the research problem, problem identification
process, formulation of research hypotheses. Research Designs: Exploratory and descriptive

Module II: Data collection, measurement and Scaling 15 lecture hours


Data collection methods: qualitative methods of data collection, Questionnaire Designing,
Introduction to data and basic statistics, Scales of measurement, Population and sample,
Frequency distribution, Graphical representation of data, Measures of central tendency, mean,
median, mode, quartiles, measures of dispersion, range, variance, standard deviation,
introduction to probability, simple, joint and conditional probability

Module III: Sampling and sampling 15 lecture hours


Sampling and sampling distributions: sampling design process, random versus non-random
sampling, random sampling methods, non-random sampling methods, sampling errors and non-
sampling errors, sampling distribution, central limit theorem, sample distribution of sample
proportion p. Estimation for single population, types of estimates, z statistic for estimating
population mean, estimation of confidence interval for population mean, estimation of
population mean using t statistic, estimation of confidence interval for population mean.
Hypothesis testing for single population, introduction to hypothesis testing, hypothesis testing
procedure, two-tailed and one tailed tests of hypothesis, Type I & Type II error, hypothesis
testing for single population means using the z statistic, hypothesis testing for single population
means using the t statistic;

Module IV: ANOVA, Correlation and Regression 11 lecture hours


Analysis of variance and experimental designs (ANOVA): Introduction to experimental design,
analysis of variance, completely randomized design (One-way ANOVA).
