Terrestrial plants are found on land. They are plants that we can see in our
gardens, around our home and school.
We will now learn how the terrestrial plants adapt to these habitats:
● On Plains:
o These plants have broad flat leaves
o They have lots of branches
o The leaves help evaporate water and keep the
tree cool
o These trees shed their leaves during winter to
protect from cold weather

● In Marshy Areas:
o These habitats have lot of water and less of
air
o The soil is sticky and clayey
o The roots cannot grow below the soil as it
usually waterlogged
o These plants have breathing roots that are
found above soil and are known as
mangroves

● In Deserts:
o The climate in this habitat is
hot and dry
o The leaves of some plants
are changed into spines that
saves water
o The stem is usually green,
thick and fleshy to perform
photosynthesis and store
water
o They have wide spreading
roots to help them with water
