Q2-L2-Introduction to Optics

The document outlines a Grade 10 Science lesson plan focused on optics, including learning objectives related to the properties of light, reflection, and the classification of luminous and non-luminous objects. It includes various activities to engage students, such as games and quizzes, to reinforce their understanding of optical concepts. The lesson is prepared by student teacher Prince Andrei D. Tejada and reviewed by other educators.

COMPETENCIE images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses (S10FE-IIg-50).
S/ Learning Objectives:
OBJECTIVES 1. Describe the properties of Optics and the Law of Reflection.
2. Identify luminous and non-luminous objects.
3. Appreciate the images formed by the reflection of objects.
II. CONTENT Module 2: Optics
Basic Concepts of Optics
A. LEARNING Learner’s Material for Grade 10 pages 53-59
RESOURCES ADM Module pages 13-16
B. PROCEDURES
INTRODUCTION Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings

ACTIVITY
Activity 1: Talaarawan!
Directions: Read and analyze statement. Fill in the blanks according to the definition.

Light mirror

1. Optics is the branch of physics that studies light and its behavior. It focuses on ho
light interacts with matter, including how it is reflected, refracted, and absorbed
different materials. Optics also deals with the design of instruments, like lenses a
mirrors, that manipulate light.
2. Light is a form of energy that we can see with our eyes. It travels in waves and c
move through space and different materials.
3. A mirror is a smooth, reflective surface, usually made of glass with a metal coati
on the back, that bounces light back, allowing you to see an image of whatever is
front of it.

MOTIVATION
Students will dance and analyze the steps of Salamin Salamin by BINI

DEVELOPMENT Activity 2: Karera!

The students will play a game show about the Optical properties of objects.
Directions: Read the questions carefully. Walk in the line where your answer is. The last
players still in after the last questions will get chips.
1. An object the produces its own light.
a. Luminous b. Non-luminous
2. An object that does not produces its own light
a. Luminous b. Non-luminous
3. A luminous object that is produced by nature.
a. Natural b. Man-made
4. A non-luminous object that does not allow light to pass.
a. Opaque b. Transparent c. Translucent
5. A non-luminous object that only allows some light to pass.
a. Opaque b. Translucent c. Transparent
6. A non-luminous object that allows light to pass.
a. Transparent b. Translucent c. Opaque
7. When light hits a completely opaque object, it cannot penetrate the object and its ra
are bounced off the surface.
a. Reflection b. Refraction c. Mirroring

What is the difference between a Luminous object and a Non-luminous? Natural and Man-
made? Transparent, Translucent, Opaque?

Activity 3: Diyan ka lang!

Directions: Classify the following objects according to its property.

1. Chair
2. LED Bulb
3. Eyeglass lens
4. Frosted glass
5. The Sun
6. Lightning
7. Sheet of paper

Can you now identify objects according to their optical property?

Activity 4: Strings!
Directions: Match the set of words on Column A with the definition from Column B

ABSTRACTION
The Law of Reflection states that “The angle of incidence is always equal to the ang
of reflection” and “Both angles lie on the same plane.”

What part of the dance step of Salamin Salamin shows the Law of Reflection?

ENGAGEMENT Activity 5: Golden Arrow!

Directions: Guide the arrow
Step 1: Identify the incident angle of the incident ray.
Step 2: Flip the protractor.
Step 3: Find the same angle to determine reflected angle.
Step 4: Draw the reflected ray.

TWO TYPES OF REFLECTION

When we consider multiple light rays hitting opaque objects, two types of reflection c
occur – specular or regular reflection and diffused or irregular
reflection.

In diffused reflection, reflected rays

are scattered in different directions. This
happens in an object whose surface is
rough (when you zoom in microscopically)
and therefore the reflecting surfaces are
oriented in different directions. Each light
ray still obeys the law of reflection but
because of the orientation of the reflecting
surfaces, parallel incident rays are scattered
randomly upon reflection.

In specular reflection, parallel incident

rays are reflected regularly at the same
angles. This involves flat, smooth objects
where the reflecting surface is oriented only
one direction. Each light ray obeys the
law of reflection. And because the
reflecting surfaces have one orientation,
parallel incident rays are reflected such that
they remain parallel to each other.
What is their difference when it comes to the reflection? What makes the diffused reflecti
blurry?

ASSIMILATION Activity 6
The students will answer the five-item quiz in a one-fourth sheet of paper.
Direction: Write the letter of the correct answer.
1. What is the study of light?
a. Optics b. Lightology c. Optalmology
2. An non-luminous object that does not allow light to pass through?
a. Transparent b. Translucent c. Opaque
3. The Law of Refection states that:
a. The angle of incidence is greater than the angle of reflection
b. The angle of incidence is less than the angle of reflection
c. The angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of reflection
4. What reflection is occurring when reflected rays are scattered in different directions
a. Diffused b. Specular c. Mirrored
5. What reflection is occurring when the reflected rays is parallel with the incident ray?
a. Diffused b. Specular c. Mirrored
