Tafsir
The matters of faith have been taken up as essential subject, Tawhid is the first
subject, as it is initiated by a description of tawhid and the real purpose of the
first four verses is to state "surely your God is but One", and in the following 6
verses a standing proof of tawhid has also been mentioned, the verse 6 says that
Allah Ta'ala has made this sky closest to the world look good through the
glittering presence of stars and from verse 7-10 it has been said that stars have
yet another benefit, as it stops wicked satans from approaching the higher levels
to eavesdrop, and the satans do that to gather news and if a satan picks up even a
part of the conversation of the angels, he remains unable to pass on the
information as he is hit by a blazing flame.
From verse 11-18, the belief in the Akhirah or Hereafter is described, along with
an answer to doubts entertained by disbelievers about it. The verse 11 can have two
meaning, it either means that either Adam A.S was created with clay or that every
human being is created with clay. The verse 12,13 talks about the reaction of
disbelievers on rational proofs. In the verse 14 it continues onto telling the
reaction of disbelievers and how they make a fun of a sign when they see it. The
verses 16-17 talks about a question of the disbelievers and the answer it given in
the verse 18. In the verse 22 it was said "Muster all those who were unjust, and
their fellows" and here the text uses the word Azwaj, is generally used for
spouses, but most commentators have interpreted it as "people of the same
persuasion" in this place.
When the leader elders among disbelievers who misled their common adherents will
appear before their followers on the plains of resurrection, they would start
arguing among themselves, The verses 27-40 carry a sampling of the same mutual
argumentation between the contesting parties as well as the sad end they will have
to face, from verses 41-61 the conditions of the people of Jannah has been
mentioned, from the verses 41-51 the comforts the people of Jannah will be blessed
with are described, and from verses 52-61, they take up an event relating to a
particular inmate of Jannah which has lessons of guidance, which is to avoid bad
company. From the verses 75-82 corollary events relating to several noble prophets
have been narrated, the first event mentioned is of Nuh A.S, in the verse 75 it was
said "And Nuh did call Us", and the prayer he made is mentioned in Surah Nuh verse
26, Prophet Nuh A.S had made this prayer at a time when his people had crossed all
limits in being wicked and unruly to him and had gone as far as conspiring to kill
him. From verses 83-98, one event from the blessed life of Sayyidna Ibrahim A.S is
mentioned, which is being thrown into fire, the second event in mentioned from the
verses 99-113 which is the sacrifice of a son of Sayyidna Ibrahim A.S.
From verses 114-122 the third event has been mentioned which is relating to
Sayyidna Musa A.s and Harun A.S and its purpose is to tell how Allah Ta'ala helps
out His sincere and obedient servants. From verses 123-132 is the fourth event
relating to Sayyidna Ilyas A.S. From verses 133-138 the fifth event is mentioned
relating to Sayyidna Lut A.S, here the people of Makkah have been particularly
admonished that they passed by the site of Sadum which was a place where this
grave event came to pass, an event full of vital lessons, yet they failed to learn
any. From verses 139-148 the final event has been described which is relating to
Sayyidna Yunus A.S, from verses 149-166 the main theme has been switched to the
essential subject of the affirmation of pure monotheism and provides proofs of the
basic beliefs of Islam, and from verses 167-179 mention the obstinacy of the
disbelievers, and Allah Ta'ala has comepressed all subjects of this Surah in the
verses 180-182.
