We have A ^3, 0h , B ^6, 4h and C ^- 1, 3h 4k ^k - 1h = 0
Now AB = ^3 - 6h + ^0 - 4h
2 2 2
k = 0, 1.
= 9 + 16 = 25
Substituting k = 0 , in the given equation,
BC = ^6 + 1h + ^4 - 3h
2 2 2
x2 + 2x + 1 = 0
= 49 + 1 = 50
^x + 1h2 = 0
CA = ^- 1 - 3h2 + ^3 - 0h2
2
x =- 1
= 16 + 9 = 25
Again substituting k = 1, in the given equation,
AB2 = CA2 or, AB = CA
4x2 + 4x + 1 = 0
Hence triangle is isosceles.
^2x + 1h2 = 0

or, x =- 1

Let x be the original duration of tour in days.
Amount with the person is < 4200.

Daily expenses, R1 = 4200

Also, 25 + 25 = 50 x
If tour extended for 3 days, total number of days
or, AB2 + CA2 = BC2 will be (x + 3).
Since Pythagoras theorem is verified, therefore
triangle is a right angled triangle. Now daily expenses, R2 = 4200

According to question.
R1 - R2 = 70

A circle centre O is inscribed in a quadrilateral
x2 + 15x - 12x - 180 = 0 ABCD as shown in figure given below.
x (x + 15) - 12 (x + 15) = 0
(x + 15) (x - 12) = 0
Thus x = - 15 and x = 12
Since, x cannot be negative, x = 12
Thus, the original duration of the tour is 12 days.

34. In figure, a circle with centre O is inscribed in a

quadrilateral ABCD such that, it touches the
sides BC , AB, AD and CD at points P, Q, R
and S respectively. If AB = 29 cm, AD = 23 cm,
+B = 90c and DS = 5 cm, then find the radius of Since OE and OF are radius of circle,
the circle (in cm). OE = OF
Tangent drawn at any point of a circle is perpendicular
to the radius through the point contact.
Thus +OEA = +OFA = 90c
Now in TAEO and TAFO ,
OE = OF
+OEA = +OFA = 90c
or OA = OA (Common side)
Prove that opposite sides of a quadrilateral
circumscribing a circle subtend supplementary Thus TAEO , TAFO (SAS congruency)
angles at the centre of the circle.
+7 = +8
Ans : [Board Term-2, 2013]
Similarly, +1 = +2
Since length of tangents from an external point to
a circle are equal, +3 = +4
DR = DS = 5 cm +5 = +6
AR = AQ Since angle around a point is 360c,

BQ = BP +1 + +2 + +3 + +4 + +5 + +6 + +7 + +8 = 360c

Now AR = AD - DR 2+1 + 2+8 + 2+4 + 2+5 = 360c

= 23 - 5 = 18 cm +1 + +8 + +4 + +5 = 180c

AQ = AR = 18 cm ^+1 + +8h + ^+4 + +5h = 180c

QB = AB - AQ +AOB + +COD = 180c Hence Proved.

= 29 - 18 = 11 cm
PB = QB = 11
Now +OQB = +OPB = 90c because radius is
always perpendicular to tangent.
Thus OP = OQ = PB = BQ
So, POQB is a square.

36. Eiffel Tower : The Eiffel Tower is a landmark and
an early example of wrought-iron construction on
a gigantic scale. The lower section consists of four
immense arched legs set on masonry piers. The legs
curve inward until they unite in a single tapered
tower. Platforms, each with an observation deck,
are at three levels; on the first is also a restaurant.
The tower, constructed of about 7000 tons of iron,

Using Pythagoras theorem in TBAO ,

OB2 = OA2 + AB2 = 152 + 152

Let d be the initial distance of car from Eiffel tower.
At this point A the angle of depression of car from
top of tower is 30c . After 15 minute car reaches at
point B. At this point the angle of depression of car
from top of tower is 60c . We draw a diagram of the
situation as shown below.

Now tan 30c = h Ans :

a0 = 90000 and d = 3000 .
d = 324 3 m
Here a 1 = 120000 and a n = 420000 also
(i) The balance in the sixth year,
a n = a 1 + (n - 1) d
a 6 = 120000 + (6 - 1) (30000)
= 120000 + 5 (30000)
= 270000 Rs
(ii) Goal of Rs 4,20,000
420000 = 120000 + (n - 1) (30000)
14 = 4 + n - 1
Now tan 60c = h 14 = 3 + n & n = 14 - 3 = 11

Here d2 2 d1 . Thus time to cover d2 is half of time
to cover d1 which is 152 = 7.5 min .
(i) Height of Eiffel tower is 324 m.
(ii) After 7.5 minute, the car will reach the base of
