INDEX
The Marjan Offshore Field is located in Arabian Gulf, approximately 85 km northeast of Tanajib
and approximately 260-km northeast of Dhahran. The field is located in medium-depth waters in
range of 29-m to 52-m.
CRPO 117: MRJN TP-14 & 3 PDMs, CRPO 118: MRJN 3 PDMs, CRPO 119: MRJN 4 PDMs IN
MARJAN is a part of the overall Marjan Field Development Program and it will provide ESP and
Future Gas Lift, Tie-In Platforms and Wellhead Facilities to increase Crude Oil Production.
A new offshore tie in platform to be installed under the project. It will be tied into MRJN GOSP-4
to deliver produced fluid to Gas Oil Separation Platform (GOSP) for separation of oil and gas.
Then the produced fluids will be transported onshore through export lines and interfiled pipelines.
The major project scope is detailed below:
CRPO 117: One TP (TP-14), Three PDMs (MRJN 740/749 (Gas Lift), MRJN 760/769 (initial free
flow), MRJN 780/789 (Gas Lift)), Modification at GOSP-4, Tie-in on TP-12, MRJN 26/28 Aux and
associated Cables & Pipelines.
CRPO 118: Three PDMs (MRJN 790/799 (Gas Lift), MRJN 560/569 (Free flow) & MRJN 530/539
(ESP)), Tie-in on TP-11, TP-13 and associated Cables & Pipelines
CRPO 119: Four ESP PDMs (MRJN 650/659, MRJN 830/839, MRJN 2000, 851/859), Gas Lift
(MRJN 800/809), Modification on TP-12 and associated Cables & Pipelines.
This procedure establishes the minimum requirements for performance of Ferrite Content Testing
in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section V and Saudi Aramco Project
Standards & Specifications.
The Purpose of this document is to perform Ferrite Content testing of welds of Piping, and Pipeline
joints by using Ferrite Content method. This procedure shall be applicable for verifying the Ferrite
content and Quality of weld joints only.
This Procedure is a “live” document and as such will be subject to periodic reviews / changes in
Line with identified and agreed amendments and improvements to the Project Quality
Management System during the project.
The order of precedence for drawings, specifications and standards for the facilities will be as
follows:
• Project Standards, which specifically include:
a) Company-provided Waivers.
b) Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards (SAES).
c) Saudi Aramco Material System Specifications (SAMSS)
d) Saudi Aramco Standard Drawings.
e) Saudi Aramco Engineering Procedures (SAEP).
f) Saudi Aramco General Instructions (GI's)
g) Scope of WORK, Preliminary design and all the Drawings and Documents. If the conflict
is between or within the documents in this Paragraph, the most stringent drawing,
specification, or standard shall control.
h) If at any time it is found that the standards and documents listed under Paragraphs
i) would permit a design that COMPANY/CONTRACTOR considers inferior to the
Preliminary Design required under Paragraph
j) COMPANY/CONTRACTOR shall have the right to maintain the design as required under
the Preliminary Design.

Revision 03
This procedure describes the method for performing ferrite content test according to
magnetic induction method by using Ferrite scope as per project specification. The
FERITSCOPE FMP30 measures the ferrite content in austenitic and duplex steel.
3.0 PERSONNELQUALIFICATIONS
All personnel performing and reporting the results of the ferrite content test should be
well experienced and conversant with operational technique of the instrument. They shall
know the applicable standard or specifications with operating instructions of instrument and
report preparation.
4.0 EQUIPMENT&MATERIALS
FERRITESCOPE Fisher Type with display the measurement reading shall be in Percentage (%)
and FN.
5.0 DEFINITIONS
• Delta Ferrite The ferrite formed from the molten state
upon freezing.
• Ferrite Number An arbitrary standardized value
designating the ferrite content of
austenitic/ duplex stainless steel weld
metal.
• Primary standards Specimens with accurate thickness of
non-magnetic material on a carbon steel
base plate containing 0.25% carbon
maximum. Each primary standard is
assigned a FN of an equivalent magnetic
weld metal, this assigned value being
specific to particular type of Ferrite scope.
• Weld Metal Second standards Small weld metal pads certified for FN
in a manner traceable to these standard
procedure.

Before actual measurements are made, the equipment shall be verified with the
calibration standard blocks provided with known percentage of ferrite content. The
steps for calibration shall be as follows.
• Choose the calibration blocks which cover both ends of the expected
measurement range.
• Press ZERO to start the normalization of the open application, ZERO
appears and remains on the LCD display while the normalization is
performed. Now press CAL to start the corrective calibration of the open
application.
• At least five measurements are taken at different location of each calibration
block and noted. Average of these 5 readings is taken as the actual
measurement. The measurement should be within ± 5% of the ferrite content
2
marked on the block.
• Press ENTER once the readings for calibration are completed.
• Calibration checks shall be done every 4 hours as well as when there is any
change in Operator.

9.0 ACCEPTANCECRITERIA
9.1 Application:
Ferrite content testing shall requires on welds those stainless steel and nickel-based alloys for piping
in severe corrosion service and high temperature service (high temperature service is defined as
any application with a design temperature above 427 deg C), the following types of material to be
applied the ferrite contend testing as minimum, but not limited too.
1. Any service that uses nickel-based alloys
2. Any service that uses duplex stainless steels
2 3. Any service that uses austenitic stainless steel types 310, 321, 347, 304H, 316H.
Note:
Strip lining and weld overlay applications are not included
9.2 Criteria:
1. The welding procedure qualification for austenitic stainless steels, except type 310, shall
include a determination of the ferrite number in the as-welded condition. The ferrite number
shall be between 3 and 10FN.
Procedure ITIS/NDT/FT/01

Revision 03
2. For production welds the ferrite content shall be checked in the as welded condition. The
ferrite number shall be between 3 and 10FN.
3. Any welding on high carbon grades of austenitic stainless steel material (e.g, 304H or
HK40) after service times exceeding 1 year shall require a re-solution heat treatment prior
2 to welding.
4. For duplex stainless steel, the ferrite content of completed welds shall be checked in
accordance with AWS A4.2. It shall be within the range of 30 to 60% ferrite using the
appropriate Ferrite Number (FN) based on the correlation established by the PQR
measurements.
5. Any reading not within the tolerance range, two additional reading shall be taken nearby
location & if the readings within the range then perform the testing on initial location with
additional surface preparation. If the reading satisfied the requirement then Joint shall be
accepted.
