1. BACKGROUND
The business is a prospective endeavor into farming, with initial focus on all year round
rotational production of field crops specifically maize, beans, potato and wheat on 10ha of land,
with a vision to increase the hectarage as well as diversify into horticulture and poultry
production as the business grows. The business is a new venture that has been self funded from
conception but however progress towards commencement of significant up-scaled production
has been largely stalled by insufficient financial resources to procure some of the critical inputs
such as consumables and farming implements. This farming venture shall be done at Farm 347
Dewure East in Ward 18 of Gutu District, a 90ha property owned by the applicant under A2
tenure system. The applicant also possesses a tractor that will significantly aid in easing the
farming operations.
Products
Piggery - Porkers
Our products are going to be distinctively identified by quality achieved through enhanced
production procedures that prioritizes producing products that can ultimately satisfy all
consumers across the divide. Our region largely produces the staple crop maize at a communal
scale and very little protein source crops like beans. As such, most of the protein source crops
as well as other essential food crops such as potatoes and vegetables are being brought from
other regions of the country thus increasing the cost of buying them. The vision of this farming
venture is to add on to the growing production of these crops to serve the surrounding
communities and in the process address dietary diversity needs for the local communities and
beyond.
2. KEY PERSONNEL
The role of management of administrative issues of the company is directly and exclusively
under the stewardship of the Owner and Managing Director Mr E.T Tumbare who has a wealth
of experience working as an Administrator in the public education sector as well as a Minister
of Religion affiliated with a local church denomination. His experience in leadership roles
spanning a period of over 30 years is the mainstay of the company's potential to quickly
transform its plan of action into reality if the required funding is availed. Green Empire
Investments believes that financial discipline in any organization is a key enabler to growth and
attainment of set goals. As such under the able leadership of the Director, we believe that the
fund shall be put to its intended use, religiously following the set plan of action. His wide
network with business people across Gutu and Bikita districts will also immensely contribute
towards increasing market penetration and sales for our farm products.
The production sector shall be overseen by Mr T.S Tumbare, an academic and technically apt
individual in the field of agriculture, who holds a Master of Crop Science Degree and 6 years
experience, managing the production of both agronomic and horticulture crops at various
private and public institutions across the country. In the interim he shall also assist with human
resources management, looking at the welfare of the initial staff complement that will be hired
to handle day to day recurrent operations at the farm.
3. OPERATIONS
The farming operations shall be done in Gutu District Ward 18, at a conveniently located site
central to the two major markets, Gutu Town and Nyika Growth Point. The strategic location of
the site creates convenience for us to easily access, market and sell our products both in Gutu
Town and Nyika Growth Point as well as surrounding areas. The projected yield output from
10ha of land, after 4months of production of medium maturity (3½ months) SeedCo variety
SC513 is 5t/ha, giving a total of 50t/ha. This shall be sold at the GMB at a producer price of
ZWL$32000/tonne to give gross revenue amounting to ZWL$1600000. This figure converts to
USD$17778 at the current Interbank rate or USD$11428 at the parallel market rate. Provisional
plans for commencement of the project if funds are availed early, are earmarked to commence
at the beginning of the 2021-2022 cropping season. An initial staff complement of 4 employees
shall handle day to day recurrent operations as well as security at the farm. Demanding
operations like planting, fertilizer application, weeding and harvesting shall be done on hired
labor. However as the company grows, there are prospects of procuring more tractor drawn
implements such as planter, vicon spreader, boom sprayer, cultivator, to mechanize these
operations. Currently the applicant possesses a 150hp tractor but of imminent need is a 3-Dish
mouldboard plough to till the land in preparation of the approaching cropping season. The main
source of supply of inputs will be reputable agro-dealers mostly from Masvingo and/or Gutu
towns for the consumables and farm implements.
4. MARKETING
Several markets for our products have already been identified and these include:
• GMB
• Companies
• Food Outlets
• Local community
Inarguably, there is competition for the available markets since our farm is located in an A2
settlement area where a number of other farmers are also engaging in agriculture production
albeit at varying scales. However, as Green Empire Investments we envision to stand out and
enhance our marketing efficiency by investing in producing rightly priced quality products that
have a competitive advantage on the market. With potential buyers and markets already
identified, our marketing plan involves approaching our potential customers such as boarding
schools, food outlets and companies, with tailor-made marketing messages to bring them to
business. Apart from that, we will also be utilizing social media platforms to advertise our
products especially in the horticulture, poultry and piggery enterprises. We also envision to
work professionally so as to produce quality work that can qualify us to host networking events
such as field days, that will increase our exposure and visibility both within the production as
well as marketing spheres. Lastly, Green Empire Investments, believes in the power of
impressions, and we desire to harness that power and redirect it towards enhancing the
marketing of our products. This can only be done through good customer service, an indirect
but very effective way to retain existing customers as well bring more through
recommendations.
5. FINANCIAL PLAN
The following budget was prepared to largely cater for the cost of commencing the initial 10ha
