• These bands have not been documented before
• In this past few years we observed that there is a number of bands focusing on
folk music. However, their status in performance is unclear
• How many platforms have been provided for this folk musicians
Research Questions

• What is the status of Folk music bands in Shillong?


• How far have these bands been documented?
• Are there enough platforms to perform for this folk music bands?
Research Objectives
• To document the folk music bands in Shillong.
• To identify the platforms for folk music bands in Shillong.
• To determine their original songs.
• To suggest measures in promoting the band and Khasi culture
Significance of the study
• It can be a source for other music students or event managers to be able to
identify bands.
• Through the study, the readers will understand better about the status of
these bands.
• It benefits the community.
Methodology
• Research design: Qualitative research
• In-dept interview method
• Area of study: Shillong
• Source of data collection: both primary and secondary.
• Sampling method: purposive sampling method.
• Sample size: 2 music bands/28 public
• Data analysis:
• Qualitative data-Narrative/Quantitative data: Propotionate Descriptive Analysis

Conclusion and recommendations
• In conclusion,the study of folk music bands offer us a better understanding
of the interplay between, music, culture and society. Through interviews and
analysis,we got to know more about the status of the bands .
• Overall, by working together- the musicians, local communities, cultural
groups, and the government we can raise the profile of folk music bands to
keep their music alive.
