Class 10th Quadratic Equation Word Problems

1. The product of two consecutive positive integers is 306. Find the integers.

2. The sum of the squares of two consecutive odd integers is 394. Find the integers.

3. A train travels 360 km at a uniform speed. If the speed had been 5 km/h more, it would have

taken 48 minutes less. Find the speed of the train.

4. The area of a rectangle is 60 m2. If its length is 4 m more than its breadth, find the length and

breadth.

5. The sum of the reciprocals of Reena's age (in years) 2 years ago and 4 years from now is 1/12.

Find her present age.

6. A motorboat, whose speed is 18 km/h in still water, takes 1 hour more to go 24 km upstream than

to return downstream. Find the speed of the stream.

7. The difference of squares of two numbers is 180. The square of the smaller number is 8 times the

larger number. Find the numbers.

8. The height of a right-angled triangle is 7 cm less than its base. If the area of the triangle is 60

cm2, find the base and height.

9. A pole has to be erected at a point on the boundary of a circular park of diameter 20 m in such a

way that the distances from two fixed gates A and B are 24 m and 18 m. Find the position of the

pole.

10. A farmer wishes to grow a 100 m2 rectangular vegetable garden. He has only 30 m of fencing

wire. Find the length and breadth of the garden.
