1. Question 01:
Scenario:
You’re reviewing a quarterly sales report from a colleague. The bar chart shows a dramatic
increase in sales, but you’re skeptical. Upon closer inspection, you notice the chart uses a
truncated y-axis starting at 80 instead of 0.
a) What is the Lie Factor, and how does it apply to this chart? Discuss at least two
ways this could mislead stakeholders.
b) What steps (three) would you take to correct or improve this chart to ensure
graphical integrity? Include both technical corrections and communication strategies.
c) Why is graphical integrity crucial in business decision-making? Discuss two ethical
implications and two practical risks of misleading visualizations.

2. Question 02:
You are working on a dataset that involves the heights of students in a school. You want to
analyze this data using various visualization techniques.
a) How would you use univariate plots to understand the distribution of student
heights? What types of plots would you consider, and why?
b) If you were interested in comparing the relationship between student heights and
their test scores, which bivariate plots would you use? Explain how each plot helps in
identifying trends.
c) In a scenario where you need to examine the combined influence of multiple
factors like height, age, and socioeconomic status on academic performance, what
multivariate plots would you use, and how would they help in uncovering deeper
insights?

3. Question 03:
Scenario:
Your team is creating a dashboard to monitor city traffic patterns in real-time. You aim to

b) What is the role of preattentive processing in your dashboard, and how can you
leverage pop-out effects to highlight critical traffic events (e.g., accidents or
roadblocks)?
c) What are the potential downsides of relying too much on multiple visual channels
(e.g., color, shape, and size) simultaneously? How would you mitigate these
challenges in your dashboard design?
