Dormengrod

First impressions: You smell the town long before you see it. The tantalizing sweet smell
of woodsmoke among the pines. The woods thin from dark, oppressive forest to light
scattered woodland. The odd shack or barn amid a plantation. You’ve heard a river, on &
off for the last hour or so and here the woods open out into a clear, mile wide vale to see
yourself separated from a town by the river.

Town is stone & timber, mostly 2-3 story. But colourful- dark brown wood, reddish shingle
roofs, blue & green painted buildings amid the grey coloured stone. Denser in the middle,
lower & more ramshackle West where the river bends & with a collection of barnlike
wooden buildings gather hundreds of yards down river from the town, where a ridge rises
up again, the forest thickens & the river dives S to avoid the ridge.

Town seems defended by the river for a third & the rest by a mound/ditch/wooden X’s.

Smoke rises from many places, people are seen moving. Life.

River- bridge- wooden tower other end.

Ryobar
The Town Reeve & guard captain

Ryobar is the elderly and dour faced reeve of this small town. He keeps the records of
the turnip and barley harvest, sheep and the lumber tithes. While people rumour that he’ll
fudge the records in one’s favour for a split of the take, it is false. He is actually impeccably
loyal to Count Brego and wouldn’t think of cheating him.
He is generally unconcerned with the religious goings on (retains peasants fear of going
after witches)..
Reward on offer for ending Nordheimer menace.
• 100lbs of turnips,
• 2 rams,
• 6 ewes, and
• 2 acres of pasture.
Note that this is property ownership not mere usage rights, in essence turning a simple serf
into a yeoman.

Father Xagyaz
The Village Priest

Father Xagyaz a young priest in his early twenties. He has been in Dormungrod for just
over a year and is aware of the rumblings of there being diabolists practising in the woods.
He sincerely has all intents of getting to the bottom of it… However…
He is also unable to live up to his own ideals, and he is filled with guilt. He has been
sneaking out at night to have an illicit affair with Ryobar’s daughter, Marilyn.
He is gone from an hour after sunset until midnight each night. Father Xagyaz has
offered his church’s entire savings of 20dr to end the witchcraft menace to the town.

Oriigova
The Herbalist

Origova is an ageing spinster whose auburn red hair is beginning to turn white. She is
independent minded, single, no children, works as an healer in the Tenements, and has a
black cat for a pet.
The townsfolk think she is a witch and more than a few want to burn her at the stake. It is
only at the urging of Father Xagyaz that they do not.
He does not see her as possibly connected to Kulnians & thus disregards her. The signs
are all there. She is a leading Cultist and sneaks out to frolic nude with demons and
sacrifice babies unto his glory.
Also she sells a variety of soothing ointments and herbs for 2 shillings a dose. Applying a
dose of her ointments before sleeping will ease pain and relax muscles (half save for
Wound regain or +1 Wound, act as salve to heal full HP roll).
She has 45z & 202k in her stone cottage just outside of town. If the players start
interrogating her about witchcraft she will claim to have seen XXXXYYYY.
