MATHEMATICS VOLUME AND CAPACITY

1. Volume

- Volume is the measure of the space taken up by a liquid or solid – the total space inside
a container.

- Units of volume: cubic metres (m3), cubic centimetres (cm3), cubic millimetres (mm3),…

Formula:

Volume = Length x Width x Height

- Example: Answer:
Volume of the shape = Length x width x height
= 5 x 2 x 3
= 30 cubic units

2. Capacity

-The amount a container can hold. millilitres litres


- Units of capacity : millilitres (mL), litres (L),…

- Example:

0.2 L = …. mL Need to x 1000 Answer: 0.2 x 1000 = 200 mL

7500 mL = …. L Need to ÷ 1000 Answer: 7500 ÷ 1000 = 7.5 L
