……………………………………………………………………………………………………….. .

The topic of globalization has generated much discussion in recent years. My personal belief

is, globalization brings detrimental impacts because it is a negative force in the world today.

For example, it creates unequal economic growth. Thanks to globalization, developed

contries are able to establish big factories where the labour cost is low, yet poor countries can

not do this. This result is not only unequal economic growth but also worker explotion. I

understand Alex’s concern over globalization, but I believe she misses another critical point.

Globalization increases unemployment. When developed countries start to build new facilities

outside, (because of lower labour cost) the workers in developed countries will not be able to

nd job which will lead higher unemployment rates.

Both the reading passage and the listening lecture give some information about laser eye
surgery. What is written in the text either refuted or challenged by the lecturer.
First of all, the reading claims that this operation is expensive, yet the professor refutes this
point by saying that the cost for the operation has decreased by 30%. Because technology is
more available, costs for basic equipment are lowering, also competition among doctors
results in lower prices.
Secondly, the author posits that there are some problems after the surgery and healing time
is long. However, this argument rebutted by the lecturer. He elaborates on this point by
mentioning that problems only for those who do extreme sports, and healing time is not that
long. It does not take too much time, two or three days at most.
Finally, the article puts forward that the operation is not effective, but the professor opposes
this point by explaining that the patients do not go back to hospital up to 20 years.
