Project 1 Team Effectiveness

The team successfully met presentation standards through equal participation and effective communication but fell short on engaging hooks and complexity. Team members demonstrated leadership through accountability and collaboration, though improvements in organization and goal clarity are needed. Conflict management was inclusive, leading to better decision-making, but proactive communication could enhance resolution of disagreements.

Meeting standards of excellence and team goals

o In what ways did your product (presentation) meet the standards set by your team?
We had gotten everyone to talk during the presentation fairly equally. We were able to
discuss the important requirements the presentation needed.
o In what ways did your product (presentation) fall short of the standards set by your team?
We fell short with the hook for the presentation. Also, according to other teams and Dr.
Mo, our presentation was a little more basic than what was required.
o How did different team members demonstrate leadership in helping the team reach goals?
Were those sufficient? What improvements are needed?
Communication amongst each team member was extremely efficient and everyone was
held accountable accordingly. Research was equally distributed, as well as the
collaboration to help with the research section. We need improved team organization and
clarifying goals. A timeline would help improve team organization.

Review your team report from CATME

o How do perceptions differ among all your teammates?
Perceptions of tasks, quality, and teamwork were very universal among the team. Everyone has
seen that the other teammates in the group do their share of work and contribute as much as they
can to the team. Minor differences are noted in items such as skills and keeping us on track. Most
perceptions however are consistent throughout the team, indicating that the team saw ourselves
as able to handle the work and come together as a group to get good results.
o What are the areas that team members need to improve? How can your whole team support
that?
Areas that can be improved are staying aware of progress and organizing our work. The whole
team could use check-ins and feedback loops to receive continuous feedback which will align
members’ expectations and views of progress. On top of this we can use documentation in a
shared repository such as OneDrive or Notion to organize our work, which would also help us
work more effectively.

Using the Guide for Effective Teams in the Teamwork module

o Describe which of the task-focused behaviors helped your team be successful. How should
you improve?
Some major task focused behaviors that aided the team were: establishing goals,
sharing/obtaining information, helping teammates, and balancing the work load. These were seen
in the group by having members discuss and research together, then split up work evenly or
based on interest. This led to work being done more efficiently and helped us establish a working
relationship. Some ways that the team could improve is by monitoring our progress. This was
seen as some assignments had fallen through the cracks and there was no clear indicators on if it
had been completed or not.

o Describe which of the relationship-focused behaviors helped your team be successful. How
should you improve?
Major relationship-focused behaviors that aided our team were: listening, inclusion, building on
everyone’s ideas, being respectful, and setting standards. These were seen among our team as
during research gathering, we would discuss sources with everyone we could, bouncing ideas off
each other when the time arose. Respect is also a large player in our team. Getting to know
everyone and acknowledging that everyone in the team is a student and a person led us to bond
together as teammates. A way that these goals could be enhanced is by having clear relationship-
based feedback, either positive or negative. This does not mean there were issues, but having
open communication on team needs and acknowledging good behavior can lead to better team
cohesion.

Review your conflict management styles reported to each other in the introductory emails
o Describe how your team made decisions and what sources of conflict you encountered.
The team makes decisions using an inclusive and collaborative approach. All team members are
encouraged to share ideas, which ensures that diverse perspectives are heard. The main conflicts
that we have encountered were disagreements on ideas or which tasks should be prioritized.
o How did conflicting ideas or expectations help your team be better?
These conflicts on task prioritization or ideas have led to better decision making, solutions, and
team engagement. These conflicts encourage discussion, so they make our team better.
o How did conflicting ideas or expectations, or avoiding them, inhibit your team?
Conflicting ideas have actually been beneficial but could cause poorer decision making and
inefficiencies if avoided. If conflicts are avoided, then tension builds up which leads to poor
communication and low morale.
o How did you resolve any differences or conflicts?
We resolved conflicts through collaboration. The members of the team ensure that everyone
understands the disagreement and allows each team member to explain their reasoning without
being interrupted. We have also used project requirements and past experiences to support
arguments rather than solely relying on opinions.
o How should your team improve on conflict management?
To improve conflict management, we could focus on proactive communication, where we
address potential concerns early. By doing so, we don’t allow minor problems to escalate into
bigger ones.
