CHECKLIST FOR PROCEDURE STATION: INSERTION OF IMPLANON
TITLE: INSERTION OF IMPLANON 10 ¼ MK ½ MK 1M
MK Greet and explain procedure to the examiner Before the procedure - Obtain informed consent from the patient - Confirm no contraindications to Implanon insertion - Perform a physical examination and assess patient history - Ensure that necessary equipment is available Procedure preparation - Provide privacy - Position the patient comfortably (preferably lying down) - Identify the insertion site (inner side of the upper arm) - Clean the insertion site with antiseptic solution - Administer local anesthesia at the insertion site Insertion of Implanon - Load the Implanon into the applicator - Insert the applicator needle at the correct angle (subdermal placement) - Release the implant and carefully withdraw the applicator - Palpate to confirm the implant is in place Post-Insertion Care - Apply pressure to the insertion site to prevent bruising - Place a sterile dressing over the insertion site - Educate the patient on what to expect after insertion (mild swelling, bruising, etc.) - Advise the patient on follow-up and signs of complications - Dispose of used instruments appropriately - Document the procedure in the patient’s records
