The Game

In Tiles of the Arabian Nights, you will explore the desert around Baghdad to collect tiles, which will be
added to your Caravan. Each tile represents one of your adventures: an encounter with a colourful character,
the discovery of an amazing place, a precious treasure or a formidable weapon, or even a battle with a
terrifying creature! All of these experiences will help you to reach your ultimate goal: impressing the Sultan
- and your friends - with epic tales of your adventures! So get creative and be as imaginative as you can, it
could make all the difference…

THE TURN
On your turn, you must move your character on the board. After moving, you must either take a tile, or tell
a Story to the Sultan. Once your turn is complete, the player to your left begins their turn.

6
Moving
It’s time to head out into the desert in
search of adventure!

During your turn, you must move

your Character on the central board.
You may move as many spaces as the
number of icons you have in your
Caravan.

You always start with 2 in your

Caravan, meaning that you will always
be able to move at least 2 spaces.

You can:
Move to any orthogonally adjacent space.
 Change direction during your movement.
End your movement whenever you wish.
Move through a space occupied by another player.
M
ove through Baghdad. The entire city counts
as one space, and you can exit Baghdad into any
orthogonally adjacent space.

In his Caravan, Jérémie has his 2 starting symbols, as well

as an additional tile. As a result, he can move up to 3 spaces
and reach the Food tile he was looking for.
You cannot:
 Move diagonally.
You may not finish your movement in

End your movement on a tile that you
cannot take (see next page).

7
Taking a tile
What secrets and wonders do the sands have in store for you?
If you finish your move on a tile, you immediately take that tile.
Flip the Adventure tile over and place it into your Caravan
in the appropriate category. If you have several tiles in the same
category, place them in columns.
To help you find what you’re looking for more easily, each type
of tile has the same illustration on its Desert side, as well as its
icon. However, when you add a tile to your Caravan and flip it
over, you’ll discover a completely unique illustration of what you
found! These illustrations will be the inspiration for your stories
when you return to Baghdad.

Each time you take a new tile, you become

more resourceful and skilled! Taking tiles
will allow you to travel faster, tiles will help
you to defeat enemies, whereas other icons will
let you meet amazing characters!

Some tiles have prerequisites that you must meet in order to take them.
To pick up a tile with a prerequisite, you need to have tiles with the icons
shown in your Caravan. The tiles used to meet a prerequisite are not
discarded, you simply need to have them in your Caravan. You may not finish
your move on a tile if you cannot meet the requirements to obtain it.

tile
type prerequisite

When you take an Enemy tile, it is placed in the available slots above your
Caravan board. You can only collect different Enemies: you cannot have more
than one Enemy of the same type in your Caravan. As a result, you cannot end
your movement on an Enemy tile of a type you already have.

Note: Each Enemy tile has a little window on its Desert side,
showing you what type of foe awaits!

8
your caravan board

If you end your movement on an empty space,

take a Temporary Bonus tile from the pile. Choose
which side you would like to use (Movement or
Weapon) and add it to your Caravan.
Your Caravan Limit
You may have no more than 10 tiles in your
Caravan at any time. This only counts for tiles
below your Caravan board, Enemy tiles placed
above your board do not count towards that limit. If
you obtain an 11th tile, you must choose one tile to

of your adventures!

Olivier goes ahead and improvises the following Story based on

the illustrations on his tiles: “Oh venerable Sultan, fellow citizens of
Baghdad, I’ve returned to regale you with the tales of my travels!

It all began on a freezing desert night. I had been walking for

hours, the cold gnawing at my bones and weak with hunger…

Suddenly, I found myself in front of a rather...

ghastly looking hut.

It was a harpy’s lair! Creeping inside, I managed to surprise it in its sleep, dispatching
it quickly. To save myself from starvation, I was forced to cook the vile creature.

I survived the night, and also made an interesting

discovery: Harpy flesh tastes like fish!”

Your stories don’t need to be too complex! Beginner storytellers

can interpret their tiles simply to keep things short and sweet.
However, if you’re feeling inspired, put your creativity to the test

GAINING VICTORY POINTS
Once your Story has been told, you immediately gain as
many Victory points as indicated on the Story token.

You can also choose to discard any tiles that you have
in your Caravan, to gain 2 additional Victory points per
tile. The Sultan loves gold!

Score your points by moving your Score token along the

score for your next Story is lower, you don’t lose points. It's up to
you to tell a Story even more exciting than the one that came before!

All players then retrieve their Vote tokens, and the Sultan

Tile Placement Rules

You step out of the gates of Baghdad,

the wind changes and the sands

you’d never noticed before...or is it just
a mirage?

tiles into the bottom of the Hourglass,

as described here.

12
End of the Game
You’ve hunted for treasure, travelled the desert, and told some truly wondrous tales...but who
amongst you will be the greatest adventurer of them all?

The end of the game is triggered when:

All the Sultan tokens have been taken.
OR
A player has completed all 4 of their Story tokens.

Once the end of the game is triggered, players continue to take their turns until they
reach the first player (the player with the Magic Lamp). The first player does not take
their turn. Instead the game ends and players then proceed to scoring.

FINAL SCORING
Each player adds the following additional Victory points to those scored during the game

the same number of points.

Each player then gains 1 additional Victory point per tile

remaining in their Caravan (not including Enemies).

The player with the highest score is the winner!

In the case of a draw, the player who told the most Stories wins.
If there is still a draw, the Victory is shared.

VARIANT: The Market
If you want to add a little something extra with your games, you can play with the Market variant.
This additional module gives you additional ways to score Victory points!

During game Setup:

Add the 5 Market tiles to the rest of the tiles before
shuffling them and putting them into the Hourglass.
Place the Market board next to the central board.

If you end your movement on a Market tile, you may You can sell several different types of tile

Victory points as shown on the Market board, depending
on the type and number of tiles sold. You cannot sell more than 4 tiles.

Instead of discarding the tiles that were sold into the Hourglass and drawing new ones as you usually would,
tiles sold at the Market are instead placed directly back onto the board, following the normal rules for tile
placement (see page 9).
