Objectives:
The course is designed to provide students with:
• Knowledge about animal kingdom, emphasizing their phylogenetic relationships and simple
to complex mode of animal life.
Course Outline:
Introduction to Invertebrates:
Definition and characteristics of invertebrates, Evolutionary significance of invertebrates, General body plans and basic
anatomy of invertebrates.
Morphology, reproduction, and ecological roles of protozoans and poriferans Cnidarians and Ctenophores:
Classification and characteristics of cnidarians (e.g., jellyfish, corals), Classification and characteristics of ctenophores
(comb jellies), Diversity, life cycles, and ecological roles of cnidarians and ctenophores.
Arthropods:

Classification and characteristics of arthropods (e.g., insects, spiders, crustaceans), Structural features, physiology,
and ecological roles of arthropods, Life cycles, behavior, and diversity of arthropods
Practical’s:
1. Study of Euglena, Amoeba, Entamoeba, Plasmodium, Trypanosoma, Paramecium as representative of animal
likeprotists. (Prepared slides).
2. Study of sponges and their various body forms.
6. Study of principal representative classes of phylum Mollusca. 7. Study of principal representative classes of
phylum Annelida.
