General Introduction of the Rubber lining

For some manufacturing companies using

production facilities that use tanks, piping, or
other important facilities in the production
process of metal equipment, a rubber coating
process can be added. The rubber lining process
will certainly determine the working life of the
equipment to be longer so that it will certainly
save the budget for repairing or replacing
equipment with new ones. With the lining
process, it is only enough to replace the new
rubber lining if the previous rubber layer is
damaged. In addition, the time required to
replace the rubber coating is relatively shorter
than if it had to be replaced with a new

Rubber Sheet
Rubber Sheet produced by the company serves to coat part of a tank which is usually used to contain chemical fluid, thereby
reducing the risk of abrasives in the tank, but on the rubber itself which will be abrasive. Usually this method is used to
reduce repair costs of the chemical tank

Because of the inconsistent final product based on the research background, productivity on
rubber sheet is still low compared with other products. Productivity rate is lower because rubber

Rubber mixing composition is a key factor for a good rubber sheet. Unbalanced mixing
composition can lead to uneven surface of the rubber sheet and it appears on the visual.

Machine and environment are also factors of what could cause the problem in production down

Simulation is “the technique of imitating the behaviour of some situation A system is defined to be a collection of
by means of an analogous situation or apparatus to gain information more entities, people or machines, that act and
conveniently or to train (or entertain) personnel. ”There are two types of interact together toward the
simulation objectives: one is to gain information and the other is to train accomplishment of some logical end.
or entertain personnel. The former is often called an analytic simulation (Schmidt and Taylor, 1970)
and the latter a virtual environment simulation (Fujimoto, 2000).
Discrete-event simulation concerns the
modeling of a system as it evolves over time
by a representation in which the state
variables change instantaneously at
separate points in time. (Law, 2013)
Value of Simulation
Simulations are used instead of real systems for
many reasons :
● Cheaper
● Optimize the resources
● More configurable

Rubber lining is one of the proven methods employed to protect chemical process equipment against the corrosive and abrasive attacks of fluids
(Chandrasekaran, 2017). When it comes to rubber lining, there are 2 types of rubber that used in manufacturing :

Synthetic Rubber Natural Rubber

In manufacturing, 70% of the rubber used is synthetic. When Unlike synthetic rubber, it’s a completely natural product that is ecologically
it comes to resistance, using synthetic rubber has several friendly. In addition, natural rubber linings also:
benefits, including:
● Have high tensile strength (can be stretched and return to form easily)
● Long lasting material ● High resistance to abrasion
● Superior resistance to heat and aging ● Adheres well to itself and other materials
● Flexible at low temperatures ● Can be used to develop a wide range of compound variations
● Resistant to electricity and chemicals

As much as synthetic and natural rubber linings vary, there are many applications for both, including:

● Rubber Linings for Tanks

● Mining Wear Parts
● Chemical industry: Storage and process vessels
● Unvulcanized linings for shop and field use
● Pre-vulcanized linings primarily for repairs
● Self-vulcanizing or chemical curing rubber sheets for repair work Fig 2.3. Rubber Lining Application in Industry

H1 : u1 - u2 ≠ 0, if 0 outside u1 -

Electricity Rework’s Time

Table. 4.6 Data production using genset

There are two parameter on what if analysis that we consider as key

support factors: Fig. 4.11 Rework time simulation scenario
1. Electricity
2. Rework-Time on calendering process as final inspection before the goods packed to consumer
● electricity : The result we found that with genset backup that can powered entire system for 2 hrs, the power outage is tolerant up to 3 hrs, it
seems from productivity result, it will reduce the result if the power outage increase.
● rework’s time: entire system output has significant increment as long as reduction of rework time, 9 pcs/day is considered as targeted annual
output on daily basis, thus 16 pcs/day means we have potential production output if we use improvement model
I. RESEARCH III. RESEARCH IV. RESULT & V. CONCLUSION &
II. LITERATURE REVIEW
INTORDUCTION METHODS DISCUSSION SUGGESTION
CONCLUSION SUGGESTION & RECOMMENDATION

1. In the process of simulation modeling to imitate the real system exist on the field, we found that field observation and statistical analysis such as
replication analysis and hypothesis testing shall be done at the first stage before we improved / proposed the new model, because it directly
relate to the production output. From stats.analysis we can have 3 replication to make the existing model in promodel, then the output will be
the same as field observation
2. Main parameter that directly to be considered for improvement model are: processing time, distance, logical movement between working
station, and cost.
3. The result of proposed model will be higher than current production output (from 4-5 pcs/day to 11 pcs/day) by using conveyor as the
movement agent for entities to be sent to another working station so the the resources operation time could be more uniform and having a
normal distribution time between each working station and reduce transport time percentage and increase operation time of the total working
time in system.
4. The main bottleneck at weighing and mixing resolved by implementation of 1 machine that can run automatically for desired formula as client
requested. Then the calendering rework could be reduce up to 50% by tidy-up the storage area and better mixing formula at the beginning
5. Proposed model output will have an efficient and effective in terms of manpower resource by 33% less, processing time 19% less and output
result 133% for 11 pcs/day - 192% for 16 pcs/day more than existing system (4 pcs/day)
6. However, the proposed model can be run smoothly by consider the power outage and reduction of rework, we found that the bar tolerance of
power outage is at 3 hrs, so the it wouldn’t affect the annual production output and the rework process should be less than 30 mins will
resulted the production output from 11 to 16 pcs/day.
I. RESEARCH III. RESEARCH IV. RESULT & V. CONCLUSION &
II. LITERATURE REVIEW
INTORDUCTION METHODS DISCUSSION SUGGESTION
CONCLUSION SUGGESTION & RECOMMENDATION

Suggestion
1. Improvement: the company should consider the proposed model to be one comprehensive solution to increase the whole
productivity to achieve its annual production target
2. Prevention System: we use 1 machine for 1 operator to be focused on so the maintenance schedule whether it’s preventive or
corrective action could be handle with it’s man, and also we provide 1 machinist to assist the maintenance thus the machine can run
smoothly, however the back-up person should be exist to prevent the absence of worker and regular training

Recommendation

1. operation implementation: The proposed model will be exist and run as the author estimate if the company would invest mode for
example: 1 new machine for weighing and mixing machine, drying machine, conveyor system, gen-set
2. Future research: the proposed model should count the cost production for related location and resources in the system to know
exactly cost differences between existing and proposed system for investment decision making process
3. Financial: COGS could be high as new investment begin due to high operating cost and will have resulted the bottom line has small
number, yet if we make a good long term/annual contract that consider the max output (16 pcs/day) the targeted margin can be
attainable.
4. Partnership: electricity outages could be prevent by the partnership such as PLN to reach the possibility of the max output from the
system has proposed. The author proposed partnership for others applicator company in the rubber sheet value chain in the rubber
industry to increase the annual target for the highest profitable product of the company.
