Set A = {1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9} represents the inventory of fruits.
Set B = {0, 2, 4, 6} represents the inventory of dairy products.
Set C = {4, 7, 8, 9} represents the inventory of customer-favorite items.
Your goal is to optimize your supermarket’s inventory and customer satisfaction. You plan to use set
operations to make informed decisions.
(i) Which items can you offer to your customers if you combine the inventories of fruits (A)
and dairy products (B)?
(ii) You want to stock items that are both fruits (A) and customer favorites (C). Find the items.
(iii) To maximize sales, you want to offer products that are either fruits (A) or items that are both
dairy products (B) and customer favorites (C). Find the items.

You are considering a special promotion and want to offer items that are available in all three

in applying for three courses, Economics (hons.), B.Com.(Hons.) and Statistics (Hons.). Some
colleges are shortlisted by him from 50 colleges. He created a Venn diagram to understand his
choices as shown below:

(i) How many colleges Saksham has shortlisted only for Economics (Hons.).
(ii) How many colleges he has not shortlisted.
(iii) How many colleges he has shortlisted for B.Com.(Hons.) or Statistics (Hons.).

1. In a school two students Amit and Deepak of class XII are shortlisted for Head boy. Half of the
teachers voted for Amit, 2/3 of the teachers voted for Deepak, 10 voted for both the boys and 6 did
not vote for either Ami or Deepak. Find how many teachers in all were present there.
2. During exam days, in a survey of 100 students , 30 students did not bring ruler , 50 students did
not bring erasers and 10 students did not bring any of the two. Using venn diagram,find how many of
them have brought both the things. .
3. A college awarded 38 medals in football , 15 in basket ball and 20 in cricket. If these medals went to
a total of 58 men and only three men got medals in all the three sports. How many received medals in
exactly two of the three sports.
4. In a survey it was found that 21 persons like product P1 , 26 liked product P2 and 29 liked product P3.
If 14 persons liked product P1 and P2 ; 12 persons liked product P1 and P3 ; 14 persons liked product
P2 and P3 and 8 liked all the three products. Find how many liked only one product.
5. In a survey of 100 persons it was found that 28 read magazine A ,30 read magazine B, 42 read
magazine C , 8 read magazine A and B , 10 read magazine A and C , 5 read magazine B and C and 3

how many persons read magazine C only.
6. There are 200 individuals with a skin disorder, 120 had been exposed to the chemical C1 , 50 to
